Susan J. Ostrom
Susan J. "Sue" Ostrom, nee Augst, passed away peacefully at her home in San Francisco, California, on June 1, 2021. Born in Michigan on July 15,1943, Sue moved at an early age to the south side of Chicago with her parents and older sister Carol, where she undoubtedly developed her signature wit and endless moxie. Educated in the Chicago public school system, Sue later attended Secretarial school, where she honed her administrative skills.
An excellent writer, a wiz at shorthand, and a good proofreader, Sue moved to San Francisco in her twenties and began her lifelong career in the radio broadcasting industry. It was there she developed a passion for KGO's Newstalk Radio. Actively involved in the station's partnerships with the business and sports communities of the San Francisco Bay Area, she represented KGO Radio at numerous station-sponsored sporting events attended by clients. "Sue was an administrator who could have run the station in a pinch," coined a longtime coworker, who knew her excellent work.
With her many talents, Sue quickly became the Executive Assistant to former President and General Manager of KGO Newstalk Radio, San Francisco, Mickey Luckoff, who captured her essence with his message to her, "[Sue] You were a mighty force in helping us to achieve what had never been accomplished before and will probably never be accomplished again in our industry." They worked harmoniously together for over 38 years until her retirement.
Sue devoured life with a passion and became an avid world traveler. Inspired by a few of her favorite authors, Cara Black, Donna Leon, and Daniel Silva, Sue toured the Marais District of Paris, attended the performance of Aida at the Arena di Verona in Italy, dined on foie gras at Brasserie Ambassade in Amsterdam's Canal District, paid her respects to the Temple Mount in Israel, and stood at the Great Wall of China. Ever generous, even while on vacation, she gifted her friends with daily emails that read like professional travel logs, so well-written that she inspired her friends to incorporate her references into their own travels.
Adoring San Francisco and its many charms, Sue patronized and volunteered at many of the city's performing arts venues, while supporting numerous local charities. Sue's passion for work, humor, reading, sports, world cuisine, and philanthropy of the arts was surpassed only by her enthusiasm for life, friends, travel, and Christmas parties.
Sue Ostrom will live forever in our hearts and be remembered by a host of friends from San Francisco to New York, Israel, and many countries in Europe. She will be missed but not forgotten.
Rest in heavenly peace dear friend Sue.
