Susan Weiss Obituary

Susan (Wild) Weiss Susan Weiss of Daly City passed away December 4 in her sleep after a brief illness at age 79. Born in London, moving to California in 1955, Susan led an active life always interested in opera, ballet and theater (with the exception of anything involving puppets, mime or time-travel). A fixture of the San Francisco Opera House, Susan has greeted friends and patrons for 40 years. Travel and reading were also her lifelong interests. Indeed, Susan shared books of great delight with her grandchildren every day since their births.

Susan leaves behind her husband of 56 years, George, her children Cathy and Mohammad Farahat of New Jersey, Steve and Pom Weiss of San Francisco, her sister Nettie Wild of Vancouver, Canada, as well as her grandchildren Navah and Azadeh Farahat and Marcus Weiss.

A celebration of Susan's life with her family is planned for April.

Not sure what to say?

Susan was a wonderful, incredibly interesting, and yet unassuming person. She was my guide and "boss" when I became a volunteer usher, and I like to think we later became friends. She knew how to take incredible joy in the small things while surrounded by The Large and Overwrought at the Opera House. The place is not the same without her. Neither is the world (and some local libraries).

My first boss at the opera house was Susan Weiss. She taught us lobby ushers well. And her kind witty words of wisdom have kept me out of trouble (mostly). I have strived as Susan taught us, to keep my nose clean, maintain a discrete profile, and stay "low-maintenance." Susan was a delight, completely her own fabulous woman and the most spell-binding story teller I ever!!!

Susan was a warm, funny supervisor, my first as an usher at the Opera House. She was wonderful and welcoming to one of my daughters who is developmentally delayed and came to usher with me. For years thereafter, she always inquired after her, and, for that, I will always be grateful.
What a grand woman she was!

Susan was the person who contacted me about ushering at the Opera House. This was more than 10 years ago. I will always remember her friendliness towards me and I did so enjoy our chats when I worked with her at the main door. She borrowed a folding walking cane from me on one of her trips to England. I will always remember her with fondness. Mary Jane LeFebvre

Dear George, Cathy & Steve,

I too worked with Susan at Greyhound Lines, Inc. and did the usher duties with her at the Opera House. The last time I saw her was in 1997/8 going through SFO to catch a United Airlines flight to ?/ I know she had a good life, because she was always talking about her family etc. May she rest in peace.

Dear George.. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Susan and I worked together at Greyhound so many years ago. We took our firt trip to Israel together... and gave Steven his first guinea pig when he was just a little boy. Later she introduced me to her love of Romeo and Juliette and found me ushering nights at the ballet. She was lovely and funny and I am so sorry for your loss. Sheila Cordon
