Suzanne Furrer Obituary

Suzanne (Sue-Sue) Mullany Furrer 9/4/35 - 2/2/11 Passed away at home at the age of 75 of cancer. Carrying her memory are her loving husband of 54 years, Richard Furrer; her devoted children Mark (Gina), Noelle, Sally (Annette), Suzy (Martin), Kristy (Reese); and her delightful grandchildren Elise (Shug), Kristy (BK), Kevin, Devin, Marie, Lucas, Anne, Kieran, Pilar, and Brett. Also missing her dearly is the large Mullany clan that includes her brothers and sisters Frank, Mary, Nancy, Dinny, Noelle, John and Gerry. Proud to be a native San Franciscan, Sue was born to Hazel and John Mullany. She attended St. Emydius Grammar School and Presentation High School. She then moved with her family to San Mateo and finished her high school education at Mercy Burlingame. Sue enrolled in St. Mary's School of Nursing and received her RN degree in 1956. In addition to her degree, Sue developed life-long friendships with a close group of nurses who have loved and supported each other for over 50 years. After her children were born, Sue was an active member of St. Matthews' parish in San Mateo for many years, attending countless basketball, baseball, volleyball games and track meets. Her greatest joys were her career in nursing, trips to the cabin in Donner Lake, taking walks, creating extraordinary needlework, laughing with her brothers and sisters, getting together with her nurse friends, and of course her children and grandchildren. With the next generation of Furrers she had again begun attending the endless rounds of recitals, sporting games, and grandparents' days at her grandchildren's schools. They will remember her as their biggest cheerleader and provider of chocolate chip cookie dough. The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Brown and Amy McDevitt, RN for all their care and support. A private burial service was held. "A Celebration of a Life Well Lived" will be on Friday, February 11 at 4:00 pm at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1310 Bayswater Avenue, Burlingame. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers for Sue, send a bouquet to someone you love. Donations can also be made to Mission Hospice, 1670 South Amphlett Blvd, #300, San Mateo, CA 94402. There's a mother's heart in the heart of God. Godspeed Sue-Sue.
