Suzanne Simmons-Grimsrud Obituary

Suzanne
Simmons-Grimsrud
October 9, 1950 - December 6, 2022
With profound sadness, we announce the unexpectant passing of our mother. Born in San Francisco and raised in the Sunset, Susan attended Holy Name and Lincoln High School. After graduation, Susan married her high school sweetheart Steve Heryford and had 3 children. In 1977, Susan remarried Burt Olhiser and welcomed a daughter. Susan was employed at the Finishing Touch in Santa Rosa & Sonoma Joe's in Petaluma for 10 years. In 1993, Susan married Marty Grimsrud and later moved to Daytona Beach. While in Florida, she worked at the historic Light House Landing restaurant. When Susan's mother died in 2003, she returned to San Francisco and devoted the next decade of her life to caring for her hero, her father. In 2013, Susan and Marty purchased a home in the quaint rural town of Penngrove.
Susan was incredibly beautiful, sentimental, loyal, and funny. She took great pride in being the first to call you on your birthday to sing, hosting big family parties, and capturing memories on her disposable camera. Susan had exquisite taste and kept an immaculate home. She loved antiques, opals, gardenias, the Russian River, and watching Lifetime movies. But, above all, she was most proud of her children and grandchildren, making a point to be present for cheer competitions, sports games, Grandparent's Day, and every milestone in between.
Susan is survived by her husband, Marty; children Johanna (Chris) Rasmussen, Steve (Michelle) Heryford, Kara Heryford, and Ali (Gabe) Cruz. Grandchildren Ashley Browne, Emma & Evan Rasmussen, Rhett & Peyton Heryford, Mia Manamea, Bella, Mariah, & Eva Cruz. Stepdaughters Amber Cao and Elaine Chyr. Siblings Karen, Judi, George, Theresa, & Colleen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pat & Dolly Simmons, birthmother Millicent Loewenstein, and brothers Patrick Simmons & Mark Kibler. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm on Feb. 11, 2023, at Holy Name Church in S.F., followed by a luncheon at the Irish Cultural Center. Please contact Johanna at 650-537-3545 for more details.

As a next-door neighbor of Sue's on 41st Ave. in the 60's (just "a few" years ago), I remember her vibrant smile/laugh and passion for life! I send my sympathy to the whole family; and hope memories of her radiance comforts their hearts.

My brothers and I grew up with Susie on 4lst Ave. Our dad was her catechism teacher. (if you can picture that!) Susie was kind, giving, fun, and hilarious. I especially enjoyed our time back on 4lst when she was caring for her dad and I was taking care of our mom. Many dear memories of someone very special.

My beautiful sister
I miss you so very much everyday. I miss our laughs, I miss our talks, I miss our texts, I miss you singing happy birthday (I'm sure everyone does!) , I miss all your Facebook comments with your many emoji's. I thank you for always being there for and loving myself and my boys. You and I have always been there for each other through the good and the bad times. I knew I could always count on you. This is one of my favorite pictures of you and I with our hero at the cabin. I know you are up in heaven smiling down on all your family and friends. Look out for us sister...until we meet again. I love you so much!!

I am so saddened to learn of your Mom´s passing. My name is Connie and I live in New Jersey. I met Susan in Cancun 4 years ago and we immediately bonded. We knew our path´s probably would never cross again but we have corresponded since we met and I considered her a true friend. She was an amazing who loved her family fiercely. I will never forget her. Please accept my sincere condolences to her husband and the whole family.

Laughed with her and Marty at our Holy Name class of 1964 reunion. We both reminisced about the time my Father drove us to a school dance.

What a thousand laughs we had!
