Sylvia Katz died peacefully at home in Foster City. She grew up in Brooklyn, New York. As a young woman, Sylvia worked in Manhattan's garment district as a silk screen artist, which she loved. After she met Bernard Katz, the love of her life, they moved west, ultimately settling in Foster City in 1969. Sylvia was a voracious reader who read over 100,000 books in her lifetime. She was an encyclopedia of pop-culture, having seen virtually every movie during the golden age of Hollywood since the dawn of "talkies." She remembered every movie and play she ever saw, and every book she ever read. She loved music, the arts, and enjoyed cooking gourmet meals. She loved going into the city with her family to catch an art film and eat at the latest restaurant. She was always very stylish and dressed beautifully. She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed by all who knew her. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Bernie; her older brother, Herb; her daughter Rita, and son-in-law, Matt.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I have been doing Sylvia's hair for about 15 years as a standing appointment on Fridays at 9:30am. I loved our conversations and she was very fashionable. Always commenting on the new hair styles. Favorable or not. She is missed greatly by all in the salon. She became friends with many of my clients. She was always cheerful and I always looked forward to seeing her. I will always remember you. Sending hugs up to you.
Love, Annette
