Tao Yip Obituary

Tao Kien Yip September 13, 1928 - May 30, 2006 Passed away peacefully on May 30, 2006 in Moraga with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife Bonnie; children, Amy (David), Benjamin (Nancy) and Andrea (Chris); and grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Stephan, Brandon and Kiana. As a graduate of the Customs Academy in Shanghai, he soon became a master mariner and joined the Island Navigation Corp. of the Tung Group in Hong Kong. He was later posted to New York where he worked many years as the marine superintendent for the group in the North American territory. Throughout his career with the Tung Group he was known as Captain Yip. In 1982 he was transferred to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he oversaw operations for the Tung Group's newest venture, American Hawaii Cruises. After his retirement in 1989, he served as a consultant to several shipping and manufacturing companies doing business with mainland China. After living and working all over the world, Captain Yip and his wife settled in California to be near their children and grandchildren. Known as a man of few words but great deeds, he will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Friends are invited to attend services on June 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette.
