Tatiana Romanova-Grant Obituary

Tatiana V. Romanova-Grant

July 27, 1947 - April 3, 2017

A Resident of Felton, California

Tatiana Romanova-Grant, a beloved friend and renowned iconographer, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of April 30th, 2017, at the age of 69. She is preceded in death by her mother, her father, and her brother.
Born in Moscow to a family of scientists, she received extensive training in the fine arts and successfully worked in the cinema, theater, stenography, advertising, as well as an illustrator for various publishing houses.
In 1974, she began to study the art of restoration. This allowed her to save priceless icons and frescoes in Russian Orthodox Churches and in private collections. Her restoration work and studies of ancient church writings led Tatiana into painting icons.
She became a master in the rare art of painting traditional icon eggs that have been displayed in museums and exhibitions throughout the world. Working tirelessly, she received many national and international awards, participating in 49 exhibitions in the U.S.A. and abroad. These exhibitions included places such as Metropolitan Museum, New York, NY., Herbst International Exhibition, San Francisco, C.A., Oakland Museum, Oakland, CA., Box Heart Gallery, Pittsburgh, PA., Domont Studio Gallery, Indianapolis, IN., Walsh Library Gallery, South Orange, NJ., Salem Art Association, Salem, OR., Northern Colorado Artists Association, The Civa Exhibition, Montreal, Canada and many others. Tatiana considered her liturgical art the most valuable work that she could leave behind as it expresses God's Love.
Her wonderful personal qualities along with her devoted spiritual work in the best traditions of the Christian Orthodox Church will forever keep our memories of her as a wonderful human being. May her Memory Be Eternal.
A Trisagion service will be held at Prophet Elias Church, 223 Church St., Santa Cruz on Wednesday, May 3, at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be at the church on Thursday at 10 AM, followed by graveside committal at Felton Cemetery, and everyone is invited to the Prophet Elias Church for a luncheon. Donations preferred to "The Tatiana Romanova-Grant Art Scholarship" care of Prophet Elias Church, Santa Cruz or to Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Ben Lomond. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring..

Tatiana rented from us in Bonny Doon for a number of years. During this time, she became a friend and co-worker as well. We lost track of her after she left Bonny Doon and we were saddened to read of her passing. She was an artist of rare talent and had deep spiritual passion. The world was a richer place for her time here. ~LizAnne and Ken Jensen
