Terrence Donohoe Obituary

Terrence James Donohoe On February 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving wife and family, Terrence James Donohoe, took his last breath. Terrence was a devoted husband, a caring brother, a loyal friend, and a remarkable son. Terrence was born March 4th, 1971. He was the youngest of 5 children raised by Lani and John Donohoe in Sunnyvale, California. Growing up Terrence attended St. Cyprian Catholic School in Sunnyvale and St. Francis High School in Mountain View. Terrence was eternally curious about everything and everyone. His whole life he displayed a desire and an ability to connect with people of all backgrounds... Medicine and surgery naturally fascinated Terrence from boyhood. By the time he was in high school, he was volunteering at Stanford Hospital. He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1993- and while there sought out hospital work in Oakland at a hospital the military uses to train surgeons. Now career in Medicine became his main goal, and after a spell of research work in the Bio Dept. at UCSF he was accepted to Boston University School of Medicine. He graduated from the Boston University School of Medicine in 2002 and was accepted into a surgical residency at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. In March of that first year of his surgical residency at Mercy Hospital -- Terrence was diagnosed with the Primary Progressive form of Multiple Sclerosis. He was then just 34 years old. At Mercy Hospital he met his future wife Angel, a clinical nurse who became his "Nurse of a Lifetime" as he struggled to survive this dreadful disease. Keeping busy was of paramount importance to Terrence so he immersed himself in computer work at which he excelled. On February 11, 2011 Terrence James Donohoe past away in the arms of his wife Angel and surrounded by his family. He was only 39 years old. Terrence is survived by his wife Angel, sons Douglas and Diego his mother Lani, his step father Mark sister Sarah, brothers Christopher, Martin, and Matthew, stepbrother Paul, sisters in law Hillary and Robin, brother in law Greg, and ten wonderful nieces and nephews. We will all forever love and miss our Terrence.

I am so sorry for the loss of this amazing human being. I had the privilege of being friends with Terrence in France when we were students together at the Institut Touraine, and he made my experience there all the richer for his curiosity and exuberance. I never imagined that he would be taken from us so soon, and I will always miss his sweet spirit and joyful soul.

His strength in suffering, his capacity for loving, his joy in living make Terrence an ever present example to us of the best way to live a life.

Terrence was a gift from God and lived an amazingly full and productive life during which those who knew him were uplifted and inspired by his wonderful inquiry and interest about everything and everyone. I was blessed to hold him in my arms as an infant and honored to be asked to be his godmother. The wonderful little boy I knew packed a great deal of life into 39 years. Keep watch over us Terrence and help us to cherish the life we were given rather than the life we have lost.

Terrence, I miss you and your big smile! I always loved talking to you about my life growing up in San Francisco in the 60s; you were never at a loss for questions and I had to/wanted to answer them all. I always enjoyed seeing you and cherish our wonderful conversations over the years. You are missed by everyone's lives you touched.

Even though I didn't have the privilege of meeting your son, Terrance, I felt as though I knew him because of the wonderful conversations we had about him and his family.

What a terrible loss to you and all of your family.

God bless.
