Theodore Rosenberg Obituary

Theodore Tobias Rosenberg Born and raised in San Francisco, passed away peacefully at the age of 101, at home in Atherton, surrounded by family and his devoted wife Rose. Ted was a proud San Franciscan. He and his brother, Sydney, built the maintenance company their father started in 1909, the same year that Ted was born-today, that company is known as ABM Industries. Ted joined the family business immediately after graduating from Polytechnic High School, and has been active with the company ever since, including serving as its President from 1935 to 1962, Chairman of the Board 1962-1984 and member of the Board of Directors 1962-2009. Ted retired from ABM in March of 2009, when both he and the company turned 100. He continued to commute to his office in Daly City four days a week up until the month prior to his passing. Ted's secret to a long life was love, family and never retiring. Ted was a great, but very quiet, philanthropist to many charities. The one closest to his heart was the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco, Columbia Park Unit-he was a lifelong member since the age of 10. He also supported the San Francisco Opera, the San Francisco Symphony, Stanford University, Youth Town of Israel and many local Jewish charities. Ted was a member of the Concordia-Argonaut Club, Lake Merced Golf Club, Sharon Heights Golf Club and The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage. He was a Shriner of the Masonic order and an ardent fan of the San Francisco Giants, helping to save the franchise and keep the team in San Francisco. Ted lovingly joins his mother, Gussie; his father, Morris; sisters June and Dorothy; his brother, Sydney; his first wife, Lilyan; second wife, Neenah; his son Ronald and his grandson Daniel. He is survived by his adoring wife Rose; his daughter, Joyce Ratner (Lou); son Jerold (Phyllis); daughter-in-law Grace and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco, Columbia Park Unit (450 Guerro Street, San Francisco, CA 94100), Youth Town of Israel (259 South Cresent Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90212) or a charity of your choice. Friends are invited to attend Celebration of Life Tuesday, April 6 at 12:00 P.M. at Temple Emanu-El, 2 Lake St. (at Arguello Blvd.) San Francisco.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Rosenberg family, Ted was kind enough to give me an opportunity, when so many others had not. He was a great man, and I consider myself lucky to have called him a friend.
