For as long as you are in the memory of others, you never die. And my wonderful friend and business associate touched so many lives and was so young when he passed that his memory will keep him alive for many, many decades to come. Tommy was simply one of the brightest and empathetic young man I ever knew in life and business. Tommy was simply the best of the best. I hate he's gone.

Sadly hard to believe it's been 7 years. It was 31 years ago I first met a very young Tommy with his cousin, dad and uncle at their first event exposing the Liberty Gold pineapple brand. It was exciting and the best of times. Tom was a shining star. He was a great friend to me and my father, Doc Davenport. They are now together cooking up deals. Miss you Tom. I send my love to the entire Battat family, especially Jennifer and the children.

In 1988 I met Tommy and his LG family during the NFBA Convention at their booth at one of the first Exhibition shows ever produced by the Food Broker association. I was about 40 and newly on my own after a 20 yr career in my family food broker business suddenly ended. I had just been the Acct Exec for Dole brand, and their National Broker of the Year. I needed to develop a portfolio of quality and competitive manufacturers to hire me to represent them in my market area. The Moon and the Stars were aligned to have us all and the Exhibition Hall right there, right then in San Francisco. Tommy was so young and new to the business, but he, like me, was born into it and raised on it. And so began a business and personal relationship between our families that saw wonderful success for Liberty Gold. Tommy was a tremendous talent and a wonderful man, an old soul even in the earliest days. I cannot believe he has been gone 6 years and will never accept the thought of the terrible sudden accident that took him from his beautiful wife and children. RIP Tom. I will never, ever forget you and pray I'll see you again on the other side of life's veil.

King Soloman wrote in Proverbs 22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Tommy passes on to his and Jennifer's children Jared and Lily a great legacy as a man of honor, integrity and a name that is esteemed.
The retail grocery industry mourns the loss of a giant and here in Texas, H-E-B Grocery Company mourns the loss of a true friend in Tommy Battat. Our business relationship with Tommy was never transactional but was based on solid relationship with a man of his word.

Tommy and myself were in the same grade from 3rd - 8th at Town School and for all four years at University High School. While at University H.S., we also happened to be in the same Counseling Cluster, so I and the other members of the Cluster had regular direct contact with Tommy. In brief, I'll always remember him as very bright, almost always wearing either a smile or a look-of-concentration, and very approachable.
It turns out that Tommy's wife, Jennifer, and myself were childhood neighbors in the Twin Peaks area of SF several years before I first met Tommy at Town School. Cannot remember Jennifer from way back then, but my sincere condolences to her, to her family, and to the entire Battat family for their sorrowful loss.
To all of their families;
May G-d comfort you, together with all mourners of Zion and Jerusalem

I had the great pleasure of knowing Tommy at Town School, University High, and Stanford. Tommy was a couple of years younger, but his maturity and friendliness were present even from a young age. Tommy was a kind and dependable soul, eager to please, but with wisdom and wit. i had not seen Tommy much since our Stanford days, but it does not surprise me to read what a cherished leader he was in the community, and a what a dear father, husband, son and brother to his family. I know the loss for all must be devastating. May his light shine on in our hearts and minds.

To Tom's Mom & Dad, Wife and Children - I am unable to put my feelings into words that reflect the sadness and shock I feel for you. Tommy was a great friend of mine, a friendship that began in 1988 when I first met him (he was 25) and Peter (21) as well as Harry - at the NFBA in San Fran. Tom not only befriended me, as I was on the ground floor as his broker for launching Liberty Gold Pineapple, but also my father who helped us both immensely along the way. I have never met a warmer, kinder human being in my life. Tom's style of calm reasoning and empathy towards everyone made him an instant and admired friend to everyone. I admired, respected and loved him from day one. I know his family are feeling great sadness and loss for this tragic accident, and Mary and I send all our love to you always, hoping that if you can feel that from us it may help. I will always have Tommy in my heart and my thoughts. He was simply the very best.

I remember Tommy as a very thoughtful person. During the big flood in Thailand couple years ago, Tommy emailed me almost every day asking whether the flood was going to hit the areas where I lived and worked. Until one day he wrote me that that morning, while he was driving to work, he heard from the radio news that inner Bangkok was spared from the flood. He told me he then "breathe a sigh of relief". It showed what a thoughtful person he was. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

May God gives strength to the family.
