Thomas Rosas Obituary

Thomas Florentino Rosas

Thomas Florentino Rosas (65) passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014. He was born in San Francisco, California on November 13, 1949 to Florentino and Mildred Rosas.

Tom attended Saint Paul of the Shipwreck and South San Francisco High School. He began his professional career with Rosas Construction Company as an Operating Engineer. He enlisted in the Army in 1970 and served two tours in Vietnam. When he returned he continued as an Operating Engineer, later founding TR Backhoe Service. He developed various sites throughout the Bay Area over the 20 years he owned the company. He became a General Contractor and acquired GMI Construction. One of the highlights of his GMI career was the restoration of the Berryessa Adobe in Santa Clara which dated from the 1840's.

Outside of work, Tom was an avid horseman and cowboy. He roped competitively and enjoyed working on farms and ranches. He stabled his horses at the Inderbitzen Ranch where he made lasting friendships. He inspired others with his deep love of horses and equine sports. He loved country music and played the guitar. He was community minded and served on the Samaritan House Board in early 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; his sons, Christopher, James (wife Julie) and Alexis; his grandchildren, Samuel, David, Daniel, Nathaniel and Christiana; his mother, Mildred and his siblings, Daniel, Rebecca and Angel. Tom was preceded in death by his father Tino and sister Elizabeth.

Tom will be remembered for his generous, kind and outgoing spirit. He loved to meet and visit with people and enjoyed nothing better than laughing over a good story. He lived his life with integrity, was beloved by many and will be deeply missed.

Public viewing will be at Duggan's Serra Mortuary at 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City on Thursday, December 4 between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m. Rosary at 7:00. Funeral services at Holy Angels, 107 San Pedro Road, Colma on Friday, December 5 at 10:30 a.m. Internment following the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.

Tommy was a very genuine man since the day i met him. I met him at the ranch in Livermore and he gave me a couple lessons on horse riding. He never got the chance to meet his new nephew Jionni. I wanted my sons to grow up on the ranch with Tommy in the summers with Selena...Tommy, you will truly be missed brother, Que descanse en paz. --Familia Ramirez/Bernal

I met Tom at a branding in Brentwood. I saw how much he liked being a cowboy and invited him up to Cedarville to drive cattle out of Nevada for the Stevenson ranch. Tom was hooked! He loved roping the calves, driving cattle, chasing wild mustangs, and playing his guitar at the end of the drive. He will be greatly missed on the trail and as a good friend.

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may Thomas rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen. "Catholic.org"

Tom was very kind, down to earth and a true gentleman. He had a wonderful laugh and was a welcoming gracious host. I was lucky to have enjoyed two holiday celebrations with him and his wife, Joan. And, in meeting him the first time, I knew instantly that he was a special person. My heart goes out to Joan and the family.
