Thomas Serafini Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Serafini May 11, 1957 - May 16, 2010 Born in San Francisco to Tolmino & Pierina, Tommy was proud of his Italian ancestry. He was an ironworker (Locals 377 & 118), chef, hunter, inventor, mentor, and above all, an amazing musician bringing the beautiful song of the accordion to life and touching everyone he met with his talent. He hung iron on the Golden Gate, changed lives through his work with Solidarity, created new recipes and perfected the old, making the best "porchetta" this side of Italy. Along with his father, he was a former member of the Marche Club of San Francisco. He first shared the music of his heritage through Expresso 5, then played every kind of music from alternative to zydeco. His beautiful blue eyes, big heart, and ready smile warmed everyone he met. He loved his family and friends beyond measure. He is survived by his loving family: wife Samantha, sons Tolmino (TJ) and Valentino, sisters Norma (Dennis) Libby and Elisa, and stepson Ethan Rubendall. Mass will be held May 28, 10:30 AM, at Corpus Christi Church, 62 Santa Rosa Ave., SF. In lieu of flowers, he would be honored by donations in his name to your favorite charity or in trust for Valentino (age 5), care of First Northern Bank, 48 Main St., Winters, CA 95694.

Dear Lisa and Norma,
We are so heart broken to hear of Tommy's passing. We always remember growing up together on Ledyard Street and all the capers we would get into down at the park. Tommy was so much fun and spread so much cheer wherever
he went. We can still see his shining blue eyes light up while bringing the accordion to life with an Italian polka or two. We were so glad to see that he has 3 wonderful sons and his legacy will continue. Our prayers are with his wife, sons and you. We will always remember Tommy and the good times. May you find solace in all the wonderful memories.

I knew Tom over the years and attended many festivals to see the Expresso 5. He introduced me to the great Dick Contino. We had a fun talk on that October day in Reno, NV about 9 years ago. The last time I saw Tom was in North Beach, SF, and we ate dinner together at LaFelce Rest. I had not seen Tom in recent years, but was deeply saddened to learn of his death. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace!
