Timothy O'Brien Obituary
(August 3, 1959 - February 5, 2015)
Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. A proud fourth generation San Franciscan, Tim attended Holy Name Grammar School and Sacred Heart and Lincoln High Schools. He was a member of the San Francisco Painter's Local Union #4, District Council 8 before he started his own business, Timothy M. O'Brien Painting.Tim had an enthusiasm for life. He was quick to smile, had a twinkle in his eye and an ease with people that made him unforgettable. Tim filled his life with music, always having a radio nearby. He kept his finger on the pulse of the city by reading the daily newspaper cover to cover. He was a loyal San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan and a foodie who loved to cook, BBQ and dine at city restaurants.
Tim's adventurous spirit was contagious. His friends were eager to join him camping, river rafting and skiing. Tim loved spending time and relaxing with his family in Loch Lomond.
Tim was the best type of friend — a guy who planned the parties and gatherings that kept his lifelong buddies connected through the years.
Tim is survived by his loving parents, Thomas and Barbara O'Brien, and siblings, Lynn (deceased) (Michael), Tom, Colleen (Steve), Dennis, Carol (Ray), Jeanne, Lisa (Slobodan), Kevin (Janine), Laurie, and John (Peggy). He was the adored uncle of 32 nieces and nephews. Tim is also survived by his longtime companion Helen Murphy.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 16, at 10:30am, with visitation 9:45am-10:30am at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 39th and Lawton, SF.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tim's memory may be made to San Francisco General Hospital, Department 4C, 2789 25th Street, Suite 2028, San Francisco, CA 94110. www.sfghf.org.

Tim was a great person. We met him through a neighbor and he painted our house. Always
friendly with a good outlook on life, we enjoyed his San Francisco stories.

I am so saddened to learn of Tim's passing. And it's been more than 5 years! I know all of you who knew and loved him in San Francisco still miss him like it was yeasterday. He was a wonderful man, and was always quick with a smile or to lend a hand. My condolences to the family. I am blessed to have known him.

I phoned Tim's number today and was startled not to be able to make a connection. And then I found this obituary. Tim was not only a wonderful man, but a terrific painter of the old school...he sanded my house and sanded it some more...so fastidious was he that passersby stopped to admire his job and remark that they didn't know that such attention to detail and pride in one's work still existed. And we always had something to talk about...people in the neighborhood, old times, and the way San Francisco used to be. I will certainly miss Tim. I offer my condolences. Mrs. Murphy

Timmy, I'll miss going out to eat, drink and talk. I'm blessed to have fond memories of so many days and nights filled with smiles, laughter, and music. From fireworks in SF to walking Bourbon St. In NOLA, we had fun times. Gone, but never forgotten. I'll carry on your tradition of broccoli casserole at the Philosopher's Club.
