Veronica Sanchez Obituary

Veronica Sanchez

Veronica Sanchez passed away peacefully on September 20, 2018 at the age of 59. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Bornstein and son, David Bornstein, who are inspired to carry on her legacy of helping others. There are few people in this world who have reached the height of their purpose on this Earth as did Veronica. She will be remembered for her selflessness, compassion, kindness and strength. As a lifelong public servant, she worked hard to help the men and women working on the San Francisco waterfront. Her passion was improving the lives of young people, especially young women in San Francisco and in her hometown of Leon, Nicaragua. In 2003 she founded and was the Volunteer Executive Director of a non-profit organization dedicated to helping poor, abandoned youth in Nicaragua (www.ncfckids.org). A Memorial Service is planned for September 28, 2018 at 4 pm. at the Delancey Street Fountain Town Hall, 600 Embarcadero San Francisco, CA 94107. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Immaculate Conception Academy Cristo Rey in honor of the Veronica Sanchez Scholarship Fund, 3625 24th St., SF 94110.

Condolences to the family. Hard to believe it has been 4 years. I became friends with Veronica in 1st grade. She did not speak much English and my Spanish at the time was so so. Soon enough she learned English and could out talk any of us. A great friend through all of grammar school and beyond! Prayers for the family

I was fortunate to meet Veronica in Nicaragua years ago with several other employees at my former job. We were there to witness and report back to our company that Veronica was making a difference and to vote on donating monies to her non-profit. Of course, we were all impressed on the impact she made in these kids lives. She was part mother, counselor and sheriff to the kids. Later, I became her accountant to her non-profit at NCFC.

She was a one of kind person that made me want to be better! I will miss her dearly and pass on my condolences to her husband and son.

We are so saddened to hear of Veronica's passing. Michal and I remember her so fondly as someone who always thought of others before herself and made everyone around her feel a little better about themselves. Our hearts go out to Jeff and David at this difficult time. May Veronica's memory be a blessing to all who were privileged to know her.

A star has departed but her light will always shine. May her memory be a blessing and an inspiration. She truly lived life with a passion for helping and sharing. She never lost hope perhaps because she was so sure of her mission. It is a privilege to have known her even as I lament the short time she was given on earth.

Our paths crossed in what for many would be considered a mundane task, shopping for daily provisions. I only had to introduce myself once, as Veronica never forgot my name and I never forgot hers. Thoughtful and gracious she became one of my favorite customers. Tonight I raise a glass of rosé to you Veronica...with love and respect to your family and friends.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Through your generosity and selfness you taught us how to give back to those in need. Your love and compassion will forever live in the world. You touched so many lives and never asked for anything in return; although our hearts are broken, we have gained a true Angel in heaven. Rest in peace my dear Veronica.

We are heartbroken. We have lost a dear friend. Veronica, you leave a huge hole in the world. You were the captain of the ship, the keeper of the flock, herding everyone in your orbit and we are all lost. Your beautiful graceful brave fighting spirit was so evident these past brutal months. We will hold you in my hearts forever, and continue to live up to your standard for making the world a better place.

I am grief stricken. Veronica was a happy, hardworking, compassionate and giving woman. We were roommates In law school. She embodied the immigrant's spirit of hard work and sacrifice. She adored her husband Jeffrey and son David. And she gave to everyone her time. Wise beyond her years, even as a student, I learned much from my dear sister Veronica. The world will never be the same without Veronica. My deepest and most sincere sympathy for the Family. Eva Plaza (and Eric Mandel).

So very sad to hear of Veronica's passing. We were childhood friends throughout grammar school. Together we became young ladies. She was always very outspoken and a good friend. Condolences to her family.
