Vincent Greene Obituary

Vincent Michael Greene
October 14, 1944 - April 6, 2022
Vincent Michael (Mike) Greene was born on October 14, 1944, in Oakland, CA to Vincent and Louise Greene. Mike died unexpectedly at his Napa home on April 6, 2022.
Due to his father's career as a Naval Officer the first 18 years of his life were spent in California, England, New York, Morocco, Spain, South Carolina and Florida. Mike attended college at the University of Florida and Florida State. He entered the U.S. Navy as a seaman in May 1966, went to Officer Candidate School in February 1967 and was stationed aboard the USS Union until it was decommissioned in May 1970.
While onboard the Union he was a supply officer and saw such ports as Da Nang, Viet Nam, Hong Kong, Yokosuka, Japan, Bangkok, Thailand and Olongapo, Philippines. Upon discharge he eventually settled in San Francisco where he first worked for the brokerage firm of Shumen, Agnew & Co. He later went to work for the Veteran's Administration in the mortgage insurance department and stayed there until 1976. He transferred to HUD where he eventually became a senior project manager and retired in August 2004.
While in San Francisco he bought and remodeled 5 homes becoming more adept and knowledgeable with each one. Mike volunteered at several AIDS organizations including the AIDS Emergency Fund (Volunteer of the year in 1994), the Stop AIDS project and Family Link. As a volunteer he did data entry, sold beer fest tickets and typed reimbursement checks for AIDS victims.
As a hobby he took up stained glass making and hand-crafted monogram light catchers for many of his friends. Though the truth be told most of them were never seen again.
A fan of the Oscars he hosted over 30 Oscar dinners as well as numerous cocktail parties and barbeques. After retirement he became a movie and TV extra appearing in 3 feature length films and several TV shows until the roles stopped coming in due to what he called the terrible too's. Too old, too short and too white.
No formal services are scheduled. As a final salute at the next Oscar's or AIDS event you attend - raise a glass in memory of Mike.

I've know Mike since he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. We had season tickets to the ACT Theater on Geary St going to dinner before attending performances.. In 1989, we vacationed in Hawaii and visited friends in Honolulu. We shared interest in fine and classic automobiles often attending the Concurs de Elegance in Hillsborough.
I truly miss him. R I P Mike!
