Virginia Reed Obituary

Virginia Vaughan Reed
August 11, 1924 - February 8, 2023
Beloved Mother to Paul Dana Blak (Nora), Sally Ann Blak (Mel), Abigail Ann Hubbard (Bill), devoted grandmother to Spencer Jack Parker (deceased), Charles 'Casey" Hubbard, Sally Vaughan Parker and Amanda Abigail Hubbard.
Ginny was born in Blair, Nebraska, a very small town north of Omaha. She attended Blair High and could still recite the school fight song at the age of 98. Ginny adored her small town upbringing and often told her family what a wonderful place it was to grow up. Ginny attended the University of Nebraska until she met a young doctor, Paul Blak on a blind date who had just graduated from Creighton University. The war brought them to Coronado, CA where Paul served at the Naval Hospital and Ginny helped with rehabbing sailors in the pool in Balboa Park. Ginny often remarked that when she saw the Pacific ocean for the first time that she had "died and gone to heaven." They moved to San Francisco after the war and Paul went into partnership with his father, also a Ophthalmologist. Ginny later married Richard Reed and they had many great adventures together until he passed away in 2009. Ginny had a 100 watt smile and a laugh that could light up a room. She was a gracious hostess and probably invented the "charcuterie tray." She was a friend to many, young and old, and hosted many dinners at her home over the years. She was a consummate walker and enjoyed walking to her beloved Burlingame. Ginny belonged to the Stanford Convalescent Home, Burlingame Country Club and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. It was at these places where Ginny made her lifelong friends.
"God looked around his garden And found an empty space, He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest, God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best."
A private family memorial service will take place at St. Paul's Church in Burlingame and Ginny will be laid to rest in the St. Paul's Columbarium.

Ginny was beautiful and always a lady. She was very gracious to my husband and I. May she rest in peace.
