William Morris Jenkins, Jr. MD
William Morris Jenkins, Jr. MD, age 83, died at his home in Piedmont on August 15, 2012.
Born on February 12, 1929 in Greensboro, North Carolina to William and Willie Jenkins, he graduated from Morehouse College in 1953 where he was a featured soloist in the Morehouse College Glee Club. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Meharry Medical College in 1957 and completed residencies in OB/GYN, Pediatrics and Cardiology.
He lived in Greensboro, Atlanta, Nashville, Kansas City, Berkeley and Piedmont and worked at North Oakland Pediatrics and Richmond Pediatrics for 50 years until he retired earlier this year. Dr. Jenkins provided pediatric services to tens of thousands of underserved children in the San Francisco Bay Area, performing over 1 million patient examinations through his career. Dr. Jenkins received numerous awards throughout his career, including the 2001 Doctor of the Year from the National Medical Association. He will be remembered by the community for his generosity and the care he provided over his five decades of service.
Survivors include his wife Carol Lee Jenkins, his sons William Morris Jenkins III and John Lewis Jenkins, his daughter-in-law Amy Yamner Jenkins and his granddaughter Ella Sandy Jenkins. William was preceded in death by his brother Lewis Jenkins and his sisters-in-law Emma Jenkins and Madlyn Jenkins.

To the Jenkins Family, I want to express my deepest sympathy to you all. I just recently found out about Dr. Jenkins' passing. He was a phenomenal doctor and an extraordinary man. He was truly the finest physician the Bay Area was blessed to have. He was my doctor and my older brother from my infant years to my early teens. I'm now in my mid 40's.
I was blessed to see him a couple years ago at Costco and he remembered me after many many years. To the Jenkins Family may the Lord give you strength and unspoken joy just knowing that Dr. Jenkins will always be loved and respected by not only my family but the multitude of communities that he took the best of care for so many years. Thank you Dr. Jenkins! God rest your soul.

You have my sympathy. June and I grew up in the same neighborhood. We were shoe shine boys growing up. He worked at the Triangle News Stand, and I worked at Pone Jone's Pool Room. Shining shoes was a good "Hustle" for a teenager. We were members of a boy's club called, the Hi Hatters Club. We put on special projects to buy our basket ball uniforms for our team. In addition to our uniforms, we had sweaters and Jackets. We were affiliated with the Hayes Taylor YMCA. Mr. David Morehead was our director. Of the fourteen members of the Hi Hatters, there are only two survivors. Dr. Nathaniel Webster who lives in Buffalo, N.Y. and me, John H. Harris of Greensboro, N.C. I have pictures that I would like to share with you and your family.

Dr Jenkins was my pediatrician for about 16 years back in the 70's and 80's. I remember him being the most caring and passionate doctor that I have ever encountered in the black community. Dr. Jenkins was a genius and very knowledgeable. I thank God for placing a genuine pediatrician like Dr. Jenkins in the bay area who respected and treated people with dignity. Dr. Jenkins will definitely leave a legacy for his dedication and services to the black community. I can honestly say, "there will never be a pediatrician like him agan."

Dr. Jenkins took care of my sisters and me as well as most of our children and worked with my mother. My husband and I will never forget the day our daughter was born, 3 months early at 1 and 1/2 pounds. As the emergency staff did their magic, Dr. Jenkins came into my room and gently tweaked my big toe to wake me up. When I looked into his kind and smiling face, I knew my baby was going to be just fine. And just fine she is;now a PhD scientist. That is one of the many gifts this man helped to give the world. Thank you, Dr. Jenkins.

As a little girl I knew that if I was sick and went to see Dr. Jenkins he would give me some of his famous pink medicine in a white bottle and green cough surup in a brown bottle. I would feel great soon as I got home and took it.You were the BEST Doctor that any child could ever have...
