William (Bill) Patrick McLaughlin
February 22, 1933 - February 15, 2022
William (Bill) Patrick McLaughlin born on February 22, 1933, in Peoria, Illinois died on February 15, 2022, in San Ramon, California of double pneumonia at San Ramon Regional Medical Center with his loving wife, Shirley at his side.
Bill and Shirley have been residents of San Ramon since they purchased their home there in 1973. They met in Oakland, California and married in 1971 at The Little Church of the West in Las Vegas. They celebrated their fiftieth anniversary in September 2021.
Bill born in Peoria, Illinois, graduated high school from Spalding Institute in Peoria. He signed up for the draft in the US Army during the Korean War. He attended Quartermaster Corps School and was sent to Japan as a Supply specialist until the war was over.
When Bill returned home, he attended Bradley University in Peoria, receiving his B.S. Degree in Business Administration in 1958.
Bills 27+ year career with Wells Fargo bank began at the Berkeley main office in 1960. He moved to their Elmwood branch in 1961 where he was promoted to assistant cashier, a position of which he was very proud since there were very few of them in the bank. Over the next several years Bill was promoted to assistant manager at the Wells Fargo Elmwood branch, then the North Berkeley branch, the Berkeley University branch, and the Lafayette branch.
Bill became Assistant Vice President at Wells Fargo's City Center office in Oakland in 1979. He retired in May 1988 from Wells Fargo as Assistant Vice President of the Loan Adjustment Department in San Francisco.
Bill and Shirley enjoyed yearly trips to Maui during their work years. They became "cruisers" in their retirement years, cruising to Alaska twice, up and down the coast of Mexico numerous times, to Hawaii, the Caribbean Sea several times, the Panama Canal, and Bill's favorite place, the Mediterranean Sea, a 16-day tour of Barcelona, France, Rome, Lisbon, and the Azores.
When they weren't busy cruising and making trips to the Mid-West to see relatives, they spent time skiing at Lake Tahoe as well as other ski resorts in the West.
Bill and Shirley also enjoyed gardening and raising roses on their property in San Ramon, having won many rose awards at the Alameda County Fair and at various Pleasanton rose shows.
Bill leaves behind four caring sisters in Illinois. Suzie (Dick) Cain, Jean (Joe) Reed, Margie (Vince) Sanzotta, and Cathy (Dan) Gillette. Two younger brothers predeceased him – Jim and Tom, whom he dearly loved and missed. He leaves a younger brother, Patrick (Glenda) in Peoria. He leaves behind numerous loving nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his loving father James Patrick McLaughlin and his beloved mother Margaret Elizabeth McLaughlin an RN of fifty years in Illinois.
Bill also leaves behind many of Shirley's family members in Ohio. Sisters-in-law Delores (Jerry) Posey, Brenda (Bruce) Rush, Barbara (Dave) Hawk and Karen (Brian) Burwell. He was pre-deceased by sister-in-law Patty (Jim) Hill and Jim Wyant, Jr. brother-in-law. He leaves many nieces and nephews in Ohio as well as other states. His father-in-law James (Jim) Wyant Sr. (Kay) died at age 96, recently in Ohio. He had served in the U.S Army Air Corps during World War II.
A military service to honor Bill will be held at Graham-Hitch Mortuary on March 7, 2022, at 12:30pm. Friends and family are invited to attend a service at Graham-Hitch Mortuary in Pleasanton 4167 First St, Pleasanton, Ca 94566 on Monday March 7, 2022, at 12:30p. Internment services will be held afterwards at the Pioneer Mausoleum at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward 24591 Fairview Ave, Hayward, Ca 94542 at 2:30pm.
Bill will be honored at a full dinner at the Brass Door Restaurant in San Ramon after the Mausoleum services. Shirley and her family would like you to attend as their guest. Shirley says this was Bill's favorite place to eat in the Bay Area and his family would love to have you all attend.
