William Oviatt Obituary

William Ricks Oviatt

July 20, 1939 - January 11, 2018

Bill Oviatt died unexpectedly at home in Nevada.

He was born in San Francisco and grew up in Redwood City where he graduated from Sequoia High School. Bill served six years in the U S Navy. During that time he met and married Kazuko in Japan. They returned to San Francisco where Bill worked in the family business servicing and repairing gas stations in the Bay Area. Wild Bill made many lifelong friends in the business and in his neighborhood in Redwood City. He loved collecting things as his family and friends will attest. He was known for his humor, deeply caring spirit and unwaveringly held ideals. He seemed to close each conversation with "Take care of yourself" and "Hubba hubba."

He is survived by his wife, Kazuko, his brothers, Shawn and Nevin, and his sisters-in-law, Judy and Marsha. A small family service has been held in Nevada. To all his friends in the Bay Area and Nevada we send our deep regrets at having to inform you of his death. He is missed already.

We miss you, Bill. And, no, I'm not a movie star. Hubba, Hubba and Keep Smillin.

Do you remember this day as Stefan tells it, Bill?

One memory growing up that always puts a smile on face was of a longtime family friend and lifelong role model. His name was Bill. I honestly believe that his personality and humor influenced me immensely and helped shape who I am today.

I remember when I was about 10. My parents invited Bill and his wife Kaz out for dinner. We all carpooled to the restaurant in my mom's 80's dodge van.

On the way there going up 280. Bill randomly started to softly whistle. He was mimicking an on coming police siren. He slowly started to raise his volume. finally my mom heard the sound. she couldn't figure out where it was coming from and it riled her up. Finally, when she realized, we all had a good laugh the rest of the night.

Today, Bill passed away. so I wanted to share this story and thank him for being that comedic influence that has made me oh so "off". His catchphrases will always have a spot in my heart. ❤❤❤
