I met Bill Witter 50 years ago in St. Louis through his daughter, Susan, who has been my best friend all these years. I can still see him sitting behind the newspaper in their living room after work. When I was 21, I began working at Monsanto - but of course Bill was working for them out of the country at that time. However, everyone at Monsanto that knew Bill (and especially the Secretaries!) loved him dearly for his kindness and stories. I grew to love him as well and looked forward to his and Phyl's visits whenever they were in St. Louis. We visited their home while sailing out of Caracas. We sat outside looking down at the ocean and he told us some more about his life's adventures. I always had my eye out for their Christmas letters just in case I'd missed something. He was a true southern gentleman and it was a privilege to know him. He will be greatly missed.
