Yong Jhung Obituary

Yong Hwan Francis Jhung Surrounded by his family, Yong Hwan Francis Jhung passed away very peacefully on July 5, 2007 following a sudden stroke. He was 69 years old. Born on October 26, 1937 in Kyong Ki Do, Munsan, South Korea. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sandra Jhung; son and daughter-in-law, Moon Yong and Cecilia Jhung; daughter and son-in-law, Moon Hee and In Sig Kang; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Mark Walters; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Brian Buchholz; grandchildren, Nicole, Jonathan, Gregory, Jee Hea, Ki Hoon and Trevor. Yong Hwan was a scholarly, self-made man that immigrated to the United States and created a better life for he and his family. While in the United States, he earned a degree in computer information systems and worked as an information systems examiner with the Office of Thrift Supervision in San Francisco. He was an active member of the Korean Catholic community in San Francisco and especially enjoyed taking long walks along the coast, investing in the stock market, learning how to read, write and speak Chinese, and gardening in his backyard. Throughout his life, he touched many people and will be missed. We hope you will join us in celebrating Yong Hwan's life. A Vigil Service will be held on Monday, July 9, 7:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Korean Catholic Church, 32 Broad Street, San Francisco, CA, 94112. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 10, 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Korean Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. McAVOY O'HARA CO. 415-668-0077

We have so many wonderful memories with Hwan through church, FFIC, and our travels together, especially most recently at Sea Ranch. He was such a gentle and compassionate friend, and we are so blessed to have known him. Love to you and your family.
