Long-time Pasadena resident Diana Martell Clark passed away June 24, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born February 15, 1939, in Sommerville, Massachusetts to Charles and Dorothy Martell. Diana grew up in the Boston suburbs and graduated from high school in
Natick, Massachusetts. She attended Vesper George Art School in Boston, and later The New York School of Interior Design where she studied Interior Design. In 1962, she met her husband, Tim, who was stationed with the Army in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, where he met Diana's eldest brother, Charlie. Over the next ten months, Diana and Tim were inseparable and falling in love. Soon thereafter, Diana moved to Southern California, and the two were married in Tim's hometown of
Santa Ana, California in October, 1962. Within a year, they returned to Boston so that Tim could attend Harvard Business School. In 1966, the couple's only child, Pamela, was born while they were living in
Denver, Colorado. Over the next several decades, the family moved to various cities on both coasts, eventually settling in the Pasadena area in the late 1970s. Always creating a wonderful home with a tasteful and well-designed interior, Diana's greatest design achievement was designing and decorating a custom Pasadena home on Burleigh Drive in the early 1990s, where they lived for 20 years. Diana's passion for interior design resulted in the creation of Diana Clark Interiors (DCI), a successful residential design business. Diana participated as a designer in many Pasadena Showcase Home events. In addition, she was an officer and supporter of the Pasadena ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Chapter. Many of her closest friends evolved from her ASID membership and her client relationships. Diana also had a passion for helping others through psychological counseling. She became a staff counselor at the Pasadena Mental Health Center, where she served a variety of clients over a number of years. Diana was most often described by those who knew her as fashionable, "classy", kind and beautiful. She also had a fervent interest in politics-always ready to participate in lively political discussions. Diana was proceeded in death by her parents and brother, Charles Martell. Surviving family members include her husband, Tim; daughter, Pamela Armus of Glendora; brothers Daniel Martell of
Nashville, Tennessee and John Martell of
Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughters, Jessica and Charlotte Armus; son-in-law, Lee Armus; and nine nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration of Life for Diana at date to be announced.
