Although it has been a long time since I last had much contact with any of the Hadleys, I still consider them to be best of friends.
It is for this reason I was deeply saddend to hear of Milton's (Mr. Hadley as I new him)passing. I have known Milton since I was a young boy of six years old, I lived two houses down. Growing up with his sons Larry, John and Tommy I have many many fond memories of Milton,a few:
Endless road trips to Niland in the Pace Arrow motor home and Laura reminding him to slow down the only way she new how.
Dove hunting trips on the railroad tracks of Walnut
Milton chasing my self and John off an active runway and rightfully telling us what fools we were.
Milton teaching me how to ride the family Honda 50 motorcycle
Most of all I think what most will remember Milton for was his contagious smile and southern kindness.
Being a fellow pilot, I am sure Milton one time or another had come accross a famous writting by WWII fighter pilot John Gillespie Magee Jr.
--Mr.Hadley,
"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung high into the sunlit silence.
Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."
You will be missed Mr. Hadley......... God speed.
Our prayers and thoughts go out to Laura, Larry, John, Tom and their families.
