Robert Jarvis Obituary

Robert "Bob"
James Jarvis
October 27, 1927 - September 23, 2014

Bob Jarvis passed away peacefully after a brief illness on September 23, 2014 at his home in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 87. Bob lived a long and fulfilled life and all who were fortunate to know him will miss his loving friendship, kindness and generosity. He died being satisfied that his work on earth was completed.
Bob Jarvis was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 27, 1927. He was raised there by Charles and Margaret Jarvis and attended Saint Joseph's Preparatory with his brother, Father Edward Jarvis. After graduation, Bob joined the U.S. Navy and served our country in the Pacific during World War II. Upon his return home, Bob received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Villanova University (class of '50) and met his future wife, Pat. They honeymooned in California and decided to raise a family in the San Gabriel Valley.
Bob's passion was being an entrepreneur. At a young age he started Trend Western Technical Corporation, a government- services firm that he ran for 50 years until it was sold to the Fluor Corporation in 2004. Bob decided retirement was not for him and formed TsiCorp with good friend Janet Clark. Bob worked every day up until his illness. At their peak, each company grew to 1,000 employees. He was a true business visionary.
A notable trait of Bob's was his private generosity. His many charitable causes included being a founding member of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas and supporting former schools that he attended. He donated to the University of Scranton, where his brother was a tenured professor, and to the Children's Hospital of LA, Disabled American Veterans, and Jesuit Seminary Guild.
Bob also had a particular fondness for horseracing and was an avid owner of horses that raced throughout the country. He enjoyed travelling throughout the world both for pleasure and to watch his horses run. Bob was a special man who was loved by many.
Bob is survived by his children, Mike (Greta), Ted (Ted), and Patsy; grandchildren, Annika, Michael (Kerri), and Mark; his brother, Father Edward Jarvis and close friend, Janet Clark.
Services will be private.

I offer prayers for those who are in mourning at Bob's loss. During a visit last year to St. Joseph's Prep he appeared healthy and was generous to his alma mater.
My condolences to his children and grandchildren and to Janet Clark. I will offer condolences to Father Ted in person.

Sitting in a Pub in Ireland on Septmeber 30th, in walks a man who could have been Bob's twin. It startled me for a split second as I thought it was him. That evening having thought of Bob the rest of that afternoon I decided to google him to see what he's been up to since I last saw him in 1990. I was startled again to see that he had just passed away last week.

Bob was my grandfather E.J. Bogan's partner when they, together, moved from Philadelphia in the 50's. I feel blessed to have gotten to know him many years after my grandfather passed and have thought of him over the years.

Bob was one of a few mentors I had in my early business career and was my last boss. He helped influence my calm, ethical and thoughtful approach to business that I practice to this day and for that I will forever be grateful.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's family. From what I knew of him and what I see today his was a life well lived and loved by many.

My Condolences,

It is with much joy that we feel when we reflect on our friendship with Bob and his beloved family. Bob was such a gentleman. His sparkling humor and caring for others were such a part of him.We feel very lucky to have shared some most memorable photo finishes with him! If there is a racetrack in Heaven, we know Bob will be in a front row seat! Rest peacefully, our friend. Fondly, Wally and Cincy
