I remember he was planning family trip to Alaska in 82. He did me a favor and showed kind gesture to me I will never forget. I was inspired by him. There are many people who act better than what their accomplishments can support and there are those who accomplished alot but show much humility, he was the latter. He wanted to teach because he did not find satisfaction in cushy job at GE was what I heard second hand. God bless Mr. Stu Bates

He is type of guy who lived Christian life with deeds and not just words. Rest in Peace Mr. Bates.

He was my math teacher in early 80s at Covina High. He was best (maybe ever) teacher I ever had. He knew his subject matter inside out and had a kind spirit about him. I Googled him few years back because I still remember him occasionally and saw he was big church person. I am catholic myself. I am glad to know little more about him on this article. I never got around donating money on his behalf but wish I did. Rest in peace Mr. Stu Bates. God bless. Johnny Lee 1984

Mr. Bates was a wonderful teacher. I was in his physics
class in 1958. He was always there to help you think
through physics problems.

Stuart was a very good listener and provided me and others more that 30 years of stories about his travels.
I´ll always remember the time we were waiting out a tremendous winter storm and along with a few stories and a bottle or 2 of vino, the storm passed and we never new it.
RIP my friend!

Mr Bates is how I addressed him. He was one of my teachers in the early 60´s and therefore I was not privy to his personal life. He was a very good teacher and sounds like a great husband and father. May God bless Mr Bates.

I didn't know Stuart Bates, but after reading his beautiful obituary, I wish I did. I'm sending prayers and condolences to his family and friends, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

I had Mr. Bates for Pre-Algebra my freshman year at Covina high. He had an odd sense of humor but it was much like mine. I thoroughly enjoyed being in his class. He was such a friendly person. I am grateful to have been one of his students.
