Kapellen, George

George Kapellen, age 89, formerly of 322 N. Highland Avenue, Plymouth, WI, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 29, 2011 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.

George was born on September 12, 1921 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, a son of the late Frank and Clara Kreidler Kapellen. He attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1941.

George served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1941-1945, serving in World War II.

On May 21, 1947, he married Ruby Bergin at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The couple has resided in the Plymouth area since their marriage.

George was the owner/operator of White Truck Company in Fond du Lac. He also worked at Wagner's Chevrolet Garage in Plymouth, Steger's Heating and Cooling in Plymouth, and the Plymouth Hospital. He retired from Sargento Cheese Company in 1986, after 9 years.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and a former member of the Holy Name Society and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus #1789 in Plymouth. George was also a former member of the Monday Morning Golf League at Quit Qui Oc Golf Course.

George enjoyed golf, woodworking and spending time with his loving family.

Survivors include: his loving wife of 64 years: Ruby of Plymouth; 7 Children: Daniel (Edie) Kapellen of Plymouth; Susan (Patrick) Sheeran of Sheboygan; Karen (John) Owens of Sheboygan Falls; Kim (Dan) DeSmidt of Plymouth; Judith (John) Meerstein of Plymouth; Ann (Richard) Van Wyk of Howards Grove; David (Colleen) Kapellen of Sheboygan Falls; 15 Grandchildren: Nichole (Michael) Mac Kinnon; Alex Kapellen; Adam (Ami) Shaw; Samuel Shaw; Jodi (Jake) Lamers; Shawn Owens (Special Friend: Megan); Brenda (Jim) Weiland; Chad (Regina) DeSmidt; Scott (Heather) Meerstein; Amy Meerstein; Zachary Van Wyk (Special Friend: Erin); Michael Van Wyk; Angela Van Wyk; Anthony Kapellen; Megan Kapellen; 11 Great Grandchildren; 1 Brother: Joe (Doris) Kapellen of Sheboygan Falls; 1 Sister in Law: Ruth Kapellen of Elkhart Lake. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by 2 children: Jean Kapellen and Dennis Kapellen; 2 brothers: Raymond Kapellen and Father John Kapellen; 2 sisters: Sister Ann Clare Kapellen and Elizabeth (Melvin) Le Mahieu.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday evening, July 4 at 5:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends and relatives may call at the CHURCH on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.

The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 will conduct military rites following the services at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in George's name for Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I knew George when I first started working at Plymouth Hospital in 1973. He was always so friendly and he helped me get acquainted with the facility. He always had a friendly comment and kept me smiling. I will never forget him. May your menories of his long and happy life keep you smiling.
