Roger Siegert Obituary

Siegert, Roger L.

Roger L. Siegert, age 85, of Plymouth, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 7, 2017.

He was born on May 22, 1932, son of the late Walter and Laura (Thomas) Siegert. He was raised on the family dairy farm in rural Howards Grove, Wisconsin. Roger graduated from Howards Grove High School. It was in his high school class of 9 students where he met Barbara Burhop. They became high school sweethearts and on August 21, 1954, Roger and Barbara were married in Howards Grove. Together they raised three children: Larry, Brian, and Lori.

Roger's love for animals, which was nurtured on the family farm, led him to attend Iowa State University, leading to a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. After graduation, Roger and Barbara founded the Plymouth Veterinary Center in 1957, and operated it together for many years until their retirement.

Roger had many diverse interests. He was proud of his service to the Sheboygan County Fair. He served as President of the Sheboygan County Fair Board and, during his tenure, was instrumental in the construction of the new grandstand, many new livestock buildings, The Chapel of Reconciliation, and the acquisition of additional land. He was a member of the Plymouth Lions Club, and the Elkhart Lake Service Club. He was on the Board of Directors for Citizen's Bank of Sheboygan-Plymouth, and the State Bank of Howards Grove. He served as President for the Eastern Wisconsin Bancshares, Inc.. He worked to establish the bank's leadership in Health Savings Accounts.

Roger played in many card clubs, including Buck-up, Skat, Sheepshead, and several Bridge groups. He and Barbara were Bridge partners in "The Moonlight Pleasure Club'" as well as several other Bridge groups. He also enjoyed occasional trips "North" to the casino. Roger was not shy and was known to drop in at various locations, places, and events to satisfy his curiosity or to visit friends and relatives.

Roger and Barbara were world travelers. They had taken trips to Europe, Russia, China (including sleeping in a Yurt in Mongolia), Japan, Venezuela, and ocean cruises. While the children were young, car trips around the USA were a regular family experience. Many of these family trips included random backroad "Roger Excursions."

Roger is survived by his children, Larry Siegert (Pamela Fitzer) of Plymouth, Brian Siegert of Howards Grove, and Lori Siegert of Plymouth; his grandchildren, Dr. Stephanie Siegert of Appleton, Kimberly (Bryan) Van De Kreeke of Plymouth, Rebecca (Josh) Janezick of Plymouth, Jacob Schwab of Plymouth; his step grandchildren, Juliane Rohs of Louisville, CO, and Danielle (Jonathan) Goldstein of Littleton, CO; his great grandchildren, Connor Van De Kreeke and Emmit Van De Kreeke, and step great grandchildren, Benn Rohs, Matthew Rohs and Kate Rohs, Eli Goldstein and Vivienne Goldstein. He is further survived by his sister: Kathleen (Gene) Kaestner; Two sisters-in-law: LaVerne Siegert, and Janice Houle.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Siegert, his parents, and his brother, Marvin Siegert.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday (June 13, 2017) at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth from 1:00 - 5:00 P.M. followed by Funeral Services at 5:00 P.M. A private family service will be held on Wednesday at The Chapel of Reconciliation at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, followed by interment in the Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

I wish I could have made it on Tuesday to pay my respects but work got in the way. Doc always treated my like another grandchild, he had no reason to, but did so anyway because he was such a kind hearted man. I will never forget the trip he took jake and I on the the EAA air show. Or the days jake and I would spend playing in the basement playing pool and having nerd wars even though we were well into our teens. I am thankful for all the love he showed me even though I was not family. He will be greatly missed.

The above picture of Doc Is perfect. When Doc was in DeO'Malley's for a pizza, that was the smile on his face. It was always a pleasure to see him and Barb. I am so sorry for your loss.

Your dad was a very good man. I remember him coming out to our place when we had horses as 4-H projects, and also taking our cats to him. He was always upbeat and gave them excellent care.

I would like to express my condolences to all who have known and loved Roger Siegert. He was a good man with a pleasant smile, a great laugh, and a solid knowledge of the game of Sheepshead. I always enjoyed the time that I spent with Roger.

I will miss his wonderful smile and boyish laugh. I'm sure he is really smiling now that he is with Barb. He was a great veterinarian, but even a greater human being.
