Arthur William DePrez, 76, passed away in his sleep on Pine Island, Florida, on October 12th, 2021.

Arthur was born August 11, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to John C. and Martha Jane (Lowenberg) DePrez while visiting his maternal grandparents "to be". He grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana, and graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1963. He continued his education at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, receiving a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw in 1967. After graduation, Arthur enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a pilot from 1967-1970. He completed his service as a 1st Lieutenant. He received his Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, in June of 1971 and August 1973 respectively. Arthur was the General Manager of the Shelbyville News from 1973 to 1986, and went on to form his own printing company, Horizon Communications.

Always active in the Shelbyville community, Arthur continued to practice Law and served as City Attorney for Shelbyville from 1996-2000. Arthur was a member of the Shelbyville Lion's Club and from 1985-1991, served as a SCUFFY (United Fund) board member, Vice President (1988-89), and President (1989-90).

Judge DePrez began his current work as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for Medicare Hearings and Appeals in June of 2005. Beginning in the Miami Field Office, those who worked with him testified to the advice, guidance and kindness in laying the foundation and establishing the culture that is shared by those working there today.

Arthur will be remembered for his knack of storytelling, his interest in history, and love for his country. He was a wise confidant to many and will be deeply missed.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Cheryl DePrez; three children, Megan (James) Booth, Ashley DePrez (Paul Giese), and Chris DePrez; five step children, Teresa Gaskin, Gary (Cathy) Foreman, Jeff (Angel) Foreman, Bryan Foreman, and Denise (Brett) Isenhower; three grandchildren, and 12 step grandchildren; and three siblings, John C. DePrez, Jr. (Lee Marks), Peter (Pamela) DePrez, and Anne Nading DePrez.

Funeral services will be held from 1-3:00pm on October 23 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home at Chiquita Blvd South, Cape Coral, Florida 33991.

A memorial in Shelbyville, Indiana is to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to SCUFFY and/or the Lighthouse Foundation in Miami.

Cheryl, please accept my condolences on the passing of your husband. It was my pleasure to work with Judge DePrez for many years at OMHA-Miami. He was always wonderful with people; and was willing to assist, mentor, or tell a joke to lighten the mood. The world is a smaller place without him. Sincerely, David Mackintosh

I served with Art as a judge at the Miami Medicare hearings office from 2005 to 2007. He was very helpful to me personally and to his fellow judges as we began our judicial careers. He left a legacy of fairness and justice. Condolences to the family.
