Doris Upton

1933 - 2021

Doris Jane Upton, 88, of Vale, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Brian Center, Lincolnton.
Born in Gaston County, on January 25, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Dorsey C. Upton and Carrie Yount Upton. She received an Associate's Degree from Gardner Webb College. Ms. Upton retired from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation, Cherryville, following a career that spanned forty years in the Claims, Insurance and Safety Departments. Throughout her life, she was involved in her community having been the Lincoln County Senior Council Group Treasurer, member of the Golden Voices Choral Group and Coordinator for Meals-on-Wheels in Lincoln County.
She was a life-long member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. At the church, Ms. Upton was a former Sunday school teacher for the Adult Women's Class, GA leader, choir member, Discipleship Training Teacher, and WMU Director. She and her sister, Lucille, will be remembered most for visiting members of the church and community when they were needed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her three sisters, Lucille Upton, Willard Upton Fussell and Eunice Upton Mitchem.
She is survived by her niece Kathryn Royster and husband Bob of Chapel Hill, two great nephews, Steven Royster and wife Brittany and David Royster and wife Jennifer all of Chapel Hill; great great niece, Lainey Royster; two great great nephews, Levi and Isaac Royster; special loving friends, Glenda and Howard Wise, Ronnie, Janet and Nell Cooke, and Tammy Cooke Lock all of Vale.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Brian Center, Lincolnton, administration and staff for their excellent, compassionate care for the last nine and a half years.
Ms. Upton will lie in repose at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home on Monday, February 15, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The family will not be in attendance during this time.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jeremy Mahaffey and Rev. Harold Benfield officiating. Please bring a yard chair if needed.
