Fred Richey Obituary

VALE - Mr. Alfred Fred Richey, 84, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton.
He was born on July 18, 1925, in Catawba County, to the late Charles A. Richey and Laura Blanche Massagee Richey. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church of Vale. Fred proudly served his country as a member of the Navy where he fought during World War II and was involved in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day. He received numerous medals for his service and most recently a commendation as a survivor of D-Day presented by former US Representative, Cass Ballenger in 2005.
In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lee Willis Richey; three brothers, C.B. "Bud" Richey, Ray Richey and James Richey; and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Walker.
He is survived by his three daughters, Rita Wall and husband, Davis, of Charlotte, Julia Rhoney and husband, Darrell, of Vale and Jill Black of Shelby; five grandchildren, Frederick Wall, Ansley Black, Amanda Cook and husband, Scottie, Tracy Cline and husband, Jeff, and Jill Walker and husband, Matt; four great-grandchildren, Avery Cook, Lindsey Cook, Kyle Walker and Bethany Walker; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 21, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral: Wednesday, July 22, 11 a.m., Laurel Hill United Methodist Church; The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial: Laurel Hill United Methodist Church
