Jerry Barger Noftsger Obituary

Jerry Barger Noftsger of Tega Cay, SC, formerly of Shelby, NC, passed away on April 9, 2021, after a fall, complicated with heart issues. He was 77.
Jerry was born on July 19, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Hospital for Unwed Mothers (which she was not!). It was the only hospital in town with air conditioning. He attended the University of Cincinnati where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He followed up with a master's degree in business from Bowling Green University.
He married his high school sweet-heart Cheryl in 1963. Jeff was born in 1969, with Susan following in 1971. Although his degree was in Engineering, his passions were collecting postcards, at one point owning over 100,000 postcards, and bluegrass music. He could frequently be found playing music with other bluegrass enthusiasts or enjoying festivals and recorded music. He was an avid basketball fan his entire life and was frequently found watching sports, a hobby he shared with his son Jeff. Enthusiastic travelers, Jerry and Cheryl made several trips to Europe.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Boyd Noftsger. In addition to Cheryl, Jeff (Kelly) and Susan (Dave), Jerry is survived by his brother and sister, John Noftsger and Janet Adams. Grandchildren are Lillian and Megan Noftsger, and Lucille and Daniel Day.
The memorial service will be held at Philadelphia Methodist in Fort Mill, SC, at 10am on Saturday, May 1, 2021. The family will be hosting a reception at The Shore Club at Tega Cay immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, people wishing to honor Jerry's lifelong commitment to music can make donations to the Earl Scruggs Center. Please donate online at earlscruggscenter.org or by mail at 103 S. Lafayette St., Shelby NC 28150.

I had the opportunity to play music with Jerry years ago and remember him as being very enthusiastic about playing the banjo. Very fond memories of those get-togethers. Rest in peace buddy. Terry Houser
