Johnnie Queen Obituary

JUNE 1, 1911 - MARCH 30, 2010
SHELBY - Mrs. Johnnie Morehead Queen, 98, formerly of 1611 Burke Road, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center in Rutherfordton.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Postell and Alma Blanton Morehead. She retired from teaching after 38 years in Cleveland, Alexander and Burke Counties, as well as Kings Mountain and Shelby City Schools. Mrs. Queen was the oldest member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was active in many phases of church work, including service as the past director of the Bereavement Food Committee, Sunday school teacher, WMU Director and shut-in coordinator. She also served as a member of the building, pastor search, finance, and nominating and personnel committees and was an active member of the Ladies Bible Class, WMU, Agape Bible study and the Triple "L" Club. Mrs. Queen was a member of the Cleveland County Retired School Personnel, N.E.A. She was a life member of NCAE and DAV Auxiliary. She also served on the Executive Committee for Special Olympics.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Floyd A. Queen Sr.; two sisters, Helen Morehead and Ralph Dover; and infant son; and Ila Mae Morehead and Zero Bivins.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Floyd and Carolyn Queen Jr. of Shelby and Charles Queen of Rutherfordton; three grandsons and two granddaughters, Robert and Connie Queen, Jeffrey Queen, Jimmy and Leslie Queen, all of Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Rachel Queen, Jared Queen and Adam Queen, all of Shelby; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, George and Katherine Martin and Myrtle Bland, all of Shelby; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral: Friday, April 2, 7 p.m., Poplar Springs Baptist Church
Officiated by: The Rev. Clyde Buckner, Dr. Jim Richardson and Dr. Danny West
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday, 5:30 to 7 p.m., before the service, at the church and other times at the home of Floyd and Carolyn Queen, 1609 Burke Road, Shelby.
Burial: Saturday, April 3, 11 a.m., Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery

Floyd, Jr.I was so sorry to hear about Johnnie. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Charles and your Family. I know Mom will be sad to hear this. She was certainly a special lady.
