JUANITA CUNNINGHAM

FLETCHER-Juanita Mae Cunningham, 86, of Fletcher, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Carolinas HealthCare System-Cleveland in Shelby.

Born in Wichita, Kansas, she was a daughter of the late Wertie and Josephine Columbia Daniels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Cunningham; brothers, Ed and Mickey Daniels; and sisters, Grace Wilkinson, Vera Winkle, Betty McConnell, and Joan Cloud.

Juanita worked at First Citizens Bank for many years before retiring. She was a member of Fletcher United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking part in church activities, volunteering at Pardee Hospital, gardening and watching things grow. Most of all, she loved taking care of people and spending time with her loving friends and family, who will all miss her dearly.

She leaves behind her daughters, Cindy Drake (Burney) of Shelby and Jeanie Long (Russ) of Fletcher; grandchildren, Kelly Hall (Joey), Bryan Drake (Shannon), Carrie Drake and Mark Baker; great-grandchildren, Will, Justin, Kyle, Lily, and Morgan; brothers, Allen Daniels (Lola) of Derby, Kansas and Bob Daniels (Sharon) of Wichita, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dot Dills and Joyce Youngblood.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at Fletcher United Methodist Church, with Reverend Dr. Stephen Ray officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the residents and the Alzheimer's Garden Place c/o Carillon Assisted Living of Shelby, 1550 Charles Road, Shelby, NC 28152.

I so enjoyed getting to know Miss Juanita when my Mother was at Carillon. She was always so friendly. I will never forget last Halloween when we were both dressed up as pirates! I still have the picture. I enjoyed singing with her and her contagious happy go lucky ways. Prayers for the family!

Miss Juanita was the sweetest lady. She had a contagious smile and a beautiful heart. Our Church would go sing on Sundays after lunch and she would always sing along with us. My prayers are with all of the family for a peace that only God can give. Remember, this is not a goodbye....But a see you later. ❤❤❤

Of all the memories I will tuck into my heart about my Aunt Nita, the first one will be her smile. She always smiled that impish smile, wanting everyone to just "get along and be happy" ! She and my Mom, Betty, we're "soul sisters" for life. Calling each other SISTER is something many of us cousins have been doing for many years. It became our sign of love.
My heart is sad but my memories are many. She rests in the arms of God and is together with Uncle Grady and her family and friends.
