Meredith Davison Obituary

SPARTANBURG, SC - Meredith Verne Davison born in the panhandle of Oklahoma at Shattuck, OK, Meredith lived his early years on a 100,000 acre cattle and buffalo ranch owned by his grandfather. He and his older sister, Barbara, enjoyed riding horses on the range with their father. While an elementary student, his family moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, and later to Spartanburg, SC, where he finished high school at Spartanburg High. One of the things Meredith enjoyed immensely was flying single and twin-engine airplanes with his "brothers" Joe and Clyde Wells; he learned to fly right out of high school, at the University of Oklahoma. From there he came back to Spartanburg and was a pharmacist and part owner of the former Craft's Drug Store chain. His career continued with a move to Charlotte where he was an assistant vice president of the Eckerd Drug Chain, before retiring into real estate and part-time pharmacy work. He also enjoyed playing golf, cribbage, and time with his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Meredith married Carolyn Wells of Spartanburg, SC, on Feb. 10, 1951, and together they had three children – Meredith, Jr., Ron, and Meda. Carolyn and Meredith were married for 55 years before Carolyn succumbed to the effects of Multiple Myeloma in 2006. Four years later, Meredith married the former Virginia Scruggs Beach, a childhood friend of Carolyn and Meredith's.
Meredith, who was 86, is survived by his wife Virginia of four years, three children – Meredith and Denise Davison, Ron and Lucy Davison, and Meda and Rick Dixon – eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, as well as many special friends and family, including Clyde and Helen Wells, Joe Williamson, Helen D. Wells, and Elizabeth Coggins.
A memorial service honoring the life of Meredith will be held at Trinity Methodist Church 626 Norwood Street Spartanburg, SC on Monday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 10 a.m until 11 a.m. in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be sent to the SRHS Regional Hospice House, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the service.Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mr. Davison

Very early in our relationship i was working with Meredith to design the conveyor system in that old mill. I called on him to share my ideas for the system. We had met maybe four or five times by then, and we liked each other, but i was the salesman, and he was a potential customer, so i was still a bit formal with him. When he came to the reception area to greet me we shook hands and then turned to enter his office, and he put his arm across my shoulder, smiled and we walked into his office. I have never had a customer do that, before or since. I remember it like yesterday, and i knew immediately this was a very special man. He became a very dear friend. I still miss him.

So sorry we never really connected, don't know why. I guess there were just to many miles and age difference. Clayton Lashley of Oklahoma City, OK, Janice (lashley) Smith and myself Roger Lashley of Wichita, KS are the last of the first cousins. Love the menories of you mom and dad.

So sorry for the delay. Meredith was one of my very favorite people. We worked together to design the conveyor system in the old Textile plant in Charlotte back in the early 70's. He flew my wife and me to Memphis TN to look at a warehouse we had done there, and he let me take the controls for a while. I considered him a personal friend and companion. He helped me relocate our family in Gastonia after our move from
TX. He will remain in my thoughts forever. A very nice gentleman, indeed. RIP my friend.

Meredith often flew many Eckerd people to various Eckerd locations throughout the chain. He always flew us safely to our destination and our return. Knowing him as I do, I am sure that he is flying to a greater place where all the good guys always land. My sincerest sympathy to all the family
