Roy Blanton Obituary

SHELBY-Roy Roger Blanton, Jr. 53, of 115-36 Bradley Rd.,Shelby, departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at his residence.

He was born on July 1, 1964 in Cleveland County, to Kathleen Blanton and the late Roy Roger Blanton, Sr.

Roy Jr. was a graduate of Crest High School. He played in several sports and was a band member.

Roy Jr. wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, so he became a truck driver and they were trucking buddies for several years. He was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he was baptized.

A very friendly person, he never met a stranger. He was a very loving son, brother and uncle and put everyone before himself. He loved his niece, Legacy, who was very helpful to him especially with helping him shop for his groceries. He also loved his brother Brian whom he was very close to even though they were 13 years apart!

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Kathleen Blanton; one brother, Brian K. Blanton (Samantha); a niece, Legacy Summer Blanton all of Shelby; two uncles, L.J. Pettyjohn (Hattie) of Greensboro and Bob Blanton of Warwick, New York; three aunts,Offia Blanton and Flossie Hardin both of Shelby and Billie Jo Moore of Lexington; two great-uncles, Elijah Phillips of Boiling Springs and Junior Pettyjohn of Hickory; one great-aunt, Annie Mack of Spartanburg, South Carolina and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel with the Rev. R.E. Devoe officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and at other times at the home of his mother, Kathleen Blanton, 2029 Green Oak Drive, Shelby.
