Tommy Spangler

SHELBY - Edwin Thomas "Tommy (Spot)" Spangler, 55, passed away on Ja. 26, 2014, at his home on Metcalf Road in Shelby. Born on March 11, 1958, a native of Cleveland County, he is a son of Bill and Sue Spangler.
He was an active member of Ross Grove Baptist Church where he helped coach the youth softball team. Tommy studied at Western Carolina University and Haywood Technical College where he earned a degree in Forestry Management. He was the owner and operator of S&B Concrete, a trade he learned from his Dad. He was previously employed by Osmose, traveling extensively up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Reading was one of his favorite pastimes, and he particularly enjoyed military history. In addition to literature, Tommy loved many outdoor activities.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Decatur and Oveida Pruett and Baylus and Lula Spangler; brother-in-law Charlie Rogers; and Aunt Helen Dover Spangler .
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Mark Spangler and wife Sandy of Berea, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara Rogers and Susan and husband William Evans, all of Shelby; Gene Spangler, Johnny Dover, and many nephews and nieces; great-nieces and great-nephews that he considered his own, Chuck, Ernie, Sasha, Jeff, Christine, Becky, Vicki, Rachael, Alyssa, Savannah, Ella Jane and Grant; and many special friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday at Ross Grove Baptist Church, Shelby
