Allen Burrington Obituary

Allen Joseph Burrington, age 73, went to Heaven on January 17, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan. He was also born in Muskegon on July 23, 1951, to his mother Maudie Lathrop Burrington. Allen, the middle sibling of five, was raised only by their hardworking, faithful & loving mother in Elbridge, Michigan, near the Lathrop family farm.

Allen graduated from Hart High School in 1969, joined the Army with brother Gary in 1972, and was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, as a Tank Commander. Allen was severely injured before assignment and was discharged from the Army shortly after recovery, ending his military career.

Allen moved back to Elbridge & Pentwater, settling his family in Shelby in 1978. While raising his family, daughters Stephanie and Amber, Allen enjoyed playing and coaching The Antler Bar baseball team with his brothers and friends. Allen also created prized gardens, opened his home to family, friends and neighbors while working in Labor Union and on local farms.

As years passed, Allen married Linda Lorenz Burrington August 1986. Allen & Linda were an inseparable duo, working together at Lorenz Party Store & Dave's Party Store and enjoyed working the Farmer's market together for many years. They became known for their amazing Halloween parties in the Big House, enjoyed car rides, casino runs and a daily gas station visit for lotto & 3-4 newspapers. Allen made friends easily and would consider them part of his family. Still enjoying team sports, Allen played fast pitch softball for many years as well as deer & mushroom hunting with his brothers in Elbridge. Allen will be remembered as a story teller, often re-sharing stories of childhood, a newspaper article or a play made by Steph in a softball game, as well as a devoted Detroit Tigers and Lions fan.

Named Grandpa Mustache by granddaughter Sydney, he was a fun, loving and mindful Grandpa and friend, making the best barbecue chicken and prided himself in teaching them manners. He was known to call them to say he loved them or leave a voicemail that was so heartfelt or hilarious. Often watching grandchildren overnight along with Grandma Linda, as well as opening their home many times to their grandchildren for long stays, as needed.

Allen continued to work assignments in the Labor Union until retirement, establishing another amazing friendship with his boss, now considered bonus son Mark. As Allen and Linda were enjoying retirement in their Hart home in 2022, he began to experience severe medical issues that impacted his daily life and worsened over time. They still enjoyed their neighbors, including daughter Stephanie & Scott, continued to garden and improve their home.

Allen's medical conditions worsened, daughter Amber, while in Traverse City, was his health advocate & confident throughout his illness. Stephanie, close family & neighbors were involved to assist with the multiple appointments, hospitalizations and help with the household too. In December 2024 After a long battle from a fall and procedures that followed, Allen was unable to recover without extreme pain from his injuries. With the deepest sadness and heartache for his family, Allen went to heaven at the Poppen Hospice House in Muskegon Michigan late Friday, January 17th.

He will be forever missed for all that knew and loved him. We are at peace knowing he is soaring to the heavens to pitch with all the power he was born with, free of pain and full of knowledge he read or watched in his 73 years. It was his game and were proud we honored his words throughout the series.

Allen is survived by: his beloved wife, Linda Lorenz Burrington along with daughters and their families. Daughter, Stephanie & (Scott) Sherman, Sydney &(Christian) Crocker and Shay Sherman & (Megan Bell); daughter, Amber & (Martin) Tuchbaum, Taylor Tuchbaum & (Dalani Flees) and Traverse Tuchbaum; bonus daughter, Deb & (Russ) Daugherty, Heather & (Billie) Knoth, Shawn Daugherty, Derrick & (Jess) Daugherty and Megan & (Avelino) Tienda; bonus daughter, the late Lisa Lorenz Andrews Amanda & (Bobby) Penter, Jennifer Peebles & Melenda Whipple; brothers, Michael Burrington, Gary & (Brenda) Burrington; sisters, Marguerite & (Kevin) Munson and Diane & (Mike) Nielsen and Aunts Marguerite Fitzsimmons & Evelyn Lathrop; as well as 17 great-grands; and numerous exceptional nieces & nephews he adored; bonus son, Mark Yaney; and special friends, Roger Dukes and the late Gary Rider.

Following Allen's wishes, a formal funeral will not be held. Allen's Celebration of Life will be announced in the spring. Allen's Full obituary story is on the Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service website, www.beaconfh.com.

Al B. He was a Great Friend and we will miss him very much. Great Baseball Player and Teammate. Playing on the field or after parties he always had a smile on his face always full of praise. I flew back in time in 1981 from England and was able to play in the last game of the season. I will never forget Al B. He was more than a friend. Rest in Peace Coach. Ace

Allen was a high school classmate. A funny, nice guy. Coming from a small town and small school, we all knew each other.
A loss of someone who was in our life is a loss of a part of our great youth. My condolences to Linda and his family.
