Jonathan Stewart Obituary

Jonathan James Stewart, 47, of Ludington, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024.

Jon was born on December 5, 1976, the son of James B. Stewart III, and Judith (Flaum) Stewart. He attended Mason Lake ISD and graduated in 2003.

Jon was a beloved son, brother, and friend of many. Most noted is that Jon was disabled. He was nonverbal having cerebral palsy and developmental delay. In spite of a difficult life journey, he touched many lives with his big smile and beautiful blue eyes. He liked simple things…going for car rides, wheelchair walks at the State Park and the beach, bananas, and Readers Digest magazine. He was easy to please.

As a family, we have much gratitude for the many people in our community who have helped in caring for Jonathan over the years. Most recently it has been the doctors, nurses, and techs at Corewell Health who were so kind, gentle, and compassionate.

We are also thankful for the wonderful staff at White Oak AFC where Jon made his home for over 5 years. They were like family. He also lived at Medilodge for a short time.

A huge part of Jon's life was attending Mason-Lake ISD. The special education teachers, the aids, and bus drivers all played an integral part in his life. We are thankful that their life's work made Jon's life so much better. After 26 years of schooling, Jon went on to Dimensions Unlimited where again the staff and workers played an essential part in Jon's daily living.

Most importantly, we are thankful for the prayers and support from our family and friends, especially from our Cornerstone Baptist Church family.

As Jonathan's earthly life has ended, we are confident that God has welcomed him to his eternal home in heaven, and for that we give God praise and glory.

Jonathan is survived by his mother, Judith Stewart; sister, Jennifer (Todd Luskin) Stewart; brother, Adam (Stacy) Stewart; niece, Samantha Stewart; and nephew, Henry Stewart.

Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, James B. Stewart III; paternal grandparents; and maternal grandparents.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 11, at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 11am. Visitation begins at 10am at the church.
