Mark Argetsinger Obituary

Mark Lee Argetsinger, age 73 of Beaufort, SC and formerly of Freesoil, MI, passed away July 18, 2024. Born June 12, 1951 in Manistee to Charles and Anna Argetsinger of Freesoil. He attended Victory Elementary, Scottville Junior High and MCC High School in Scottville, MI.

In 1969 Mark enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1984, and served in Vietnam, 1970-71. In 1981 he participated in the exercise, "Team Spirit '81" in Korea. IN 1984 he received the Meritorious Mast award serving with the Second Marine Aircraft Wing in Beaufort, SC.

After the service he stayed in Beaufort and continued his life with Stuart Kaitz. Together they raised Daphne Strickling, Laura (Rodney) Clark, Jennifer Avery (Jamie Ferguson), Sharon Strickling and son David Strickling (passed), nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mark was especially close to Autumn, MJ and Nathan (his babies).

Mark worked for Mackey Paint Plantation, running heavy equipment and maintenance. Always the fisherman and shrimper, he also supplied bait stores with fresh bait. Mark always had a dog with him and he loved and rode horses in the Color Guard and in the Marines.

Growing up we shared many adventures, from building forts in the haymow and tunnels in the snow drifts, to walking down to Sauble River to fish or swim. We played baseball and football, and sledding and tobogganing in the winter. Mark would swing from the rope in the barn doing the Tarzan yell. He taught me, his little sister, how to tell time on the living room clock.

He had a special fondness for his nieces and nephews. They loved their Uncle Mark even when he would pick them up and turn them upside down and pretend to drop them.

On one of his visits back to Michigan, he went ice fishing with the guys and spotted his childhood friend, Art Whitaker, across the ice. They both gave some kind of yell and ran towards each other at a full run. They tackled each other and wrestled for a while, then got up patting each other on the back.

Mark was a kind man and would give you the shirt off his back. We will all miss this man called brother, son, uncle and Poppa.

Mark is survived by brothers Charles (Jenni) Argetsinger of Scottville, MI and Bruce Argetsinger of Mesick, MI; sister Susan (Doug) Stockman of Freesoil, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Argetsinger, sister Marie Cole, brother Robert Argetsinger and special son, David Strickling.

Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson Funeral Home in Beaufort, SC. A military service will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery on August 2, 2024, at 10 a.m.
