Gregory Maier Obituary

Gregory Lee Maier, 38

Gregory Lee Maier, 38, of Spirit Lake, ID, passed away on August 31, 2025. Greg was born on July 10, 1987 in Flagstaff, AZ, a son of Tommy and Holly (Rupard) Maier.

Greg attended school in Castle Dale, UT and upon graduation, enlisted in the US Navy, working as a gas turbine electrician and earning the rank of E4, until he was honorably discharged in 2012. Greg loved being underway at sea and often shared stories of the beauty of the night sky, the rocking of the ocean waves and his adventures while in ports around the world.

After the Navy, Greg returned to Arizona and worked at Intel's microprocessor division. He met his best friend Chris, with whom he remained extremely close. Greg had a deep love for the desert, growing up recreating and creating many family memories at the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell. He and his wife Maren were married at Shoshone Point at the Grand Canyon and frequently vacationed in AZ.

Greg was also a passionate Arizona Cardinals football fan and would at times go down to the local watering hole to watch the game and give the Seahawks fan club a hard time, all in good fun.

Greg married Maren Jorgensen in 2015 and became step father to three amazing children. He was a very attentive father figure in their lives, from changing diapers as babies, coaching their soccer and baseball teams, teaching them to shoot and hunter's safety, to most recently helping his oldest attain her driver's license.

Greg's love of machines began as a young boy working on and rebuilding cars with his dad, Tom. From his time in the Navy to working in the oil fields, as a locomotive engineer for BNSF and then gaining his welding certification from North Idaho College, while working at Silverwood maintaining their roller coasters, to go on to becoming a millwright, most recently working at Idaho Forest Group. His career has always been one of hard work and skill. We often joked that his career is the stuff little boys dreamed of doing when they grew up.

Greg loved the outdoors; you could usually find him playing out in the woods, fishing, hunting, camping or 4 wheeling. He loved grilling and smoking BBQ for friends and family. Greg came to find a love for golf at the persistence of his wife, and they spent many afternoons golfing with friends out at Twin Lakes together.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides.

Survivors include his wife, Maren Maier of Spirit Lake, ID and step-children Saydie, Eli and Jax; his parents, Tommy (Elaine) Maier of Kingston, ID and Holly Maier of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Rachel (Danny) Scott and nephew Theodore; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that were like family.

A celebration of Greg's life will be held at 2pm on September 21, 2025 at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club. 5416 W Village Blvd., Rathdrum, ID 83858.
