Ann Burnette Johns

McCain

SHREVEPORT, LA - Ann Burnette Johns McCain died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at home, as wished. She was born to parents Anne Abel and Orison McNeil Burnette on December 4, 1921, in the Shreveport, LA. home of her maternal grandparent's Mary Byrd Shepherd and John Christian Abel, shared with Aunt Dolzie Abel.

Ann married Barron Johns, Jr. in 1942, who was lost in the Pacific during World War II. As a young widow in 1946, she married Carl James McCain, who died in 1979. Surviving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are Rebel Johns and J. Stewart Slack, III, Shannon Slack and Vic Woodard, Brooke and Brandon Wall, Avery and Madison; Mary Ellen McCain Hoffman, Scott and Hannah Hoffman, Hadlee and Reece; and son Michael McCain. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Sarah Ann Hoffman in 2006. Ann was survived by special people Creola Ware and family, Sewing Group, Frank Burns, Nano and neighbors.

Ann wanted to suggest to those she knew and loved to "please contact your loved ones." In lieu of flowers please consider Church of Holy Cross Episcopal (P.O. Box 1627, Shreveport, LA. 71165) or The Carl McCain Memorial Foundation (P.O. Box 6054, Houston, TX. 77266). Ann dedicated her body to LSU Medical School and a memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Cross.

Momma was a strong, creative, intelligent woman that will be missed and remembered by all who knew her. She loved God, family, friends, home, the U.S.A, as well as flashlights, words and laughing. She was proud of us all, and encouraged us to always Love One Another. We are ever aware of the blessings she shared with us and admired her steadfast determination to live on her own until the end. We are fortunate she had loving care by Dr. Hunt and Staff, and the recent tender mercy of St. Joseph Hospice and "sweet sitters" during her brief illness. We thank all of you that have sent your prayers, thoughts and love during this time and want you all to know Granmomma had a wonderful 90 years on this Earth and now is free, at peace "somewhere over the rainbow." As she would say, "God Bless Us Everyone."

M'Ellen, Rebel and family - I'm so sorry for your loss. But I know "Tootie", Sarah, Murff and Arey are so happy to see her and I can hear "Miss Ann" and "Saint Arey" laughing now, to the point of joyous tears in their eyes!!! I wish Judy and I could be there with you on Saturday, but we both have out of town plans that could not be changed. You know our hearts are with you always! Much love..."PEO"
