Brian Sugar Obituary

Brian Alan Sugar

SHREVEPORT, LA - A celebration of life for Alan will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at Joe Fertitta's Anvil Bar & Grill, 6301 Line Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71106.Brian Alan Sugar, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on January 16, 2016 surrounded by family. Alan, "Bubba," is survived by his adoring, longtime wife and best friend, Barbara Sugar and their daughters, Ashley Sugar Bates and husband, Brad and Melissa Sugar Gold and husband, Daryl as well as his daughter, Suzan Alana Sugar. A son, Charles Brian Sugar also survives him. He leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but his fondest memories were with his local grandchildren, Alan Berry, Will Bates, Blake and Bennett Carby, Kensley and Kaitie Sugar-Bruce.

Alan was born July 27, 1930, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Charlotte Williams Sugar and Louis Leonard Sugar.

Alan was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School and Baylor University where he played football. A lifelong resident of Shreveport, he established Sugar Oil Company and spent his professional life in the oil and gas business. He was a well-respected and admired self-made man and will be remembered as a kind, generous, trusting and giving person.

Alan will be greatly missed and his death is a loss to many.

Those who knew him will cherish the fun, memorable times shared with him. One of Alan's greatest treasures was his family. Whether spending time with his children, grandchildren or his wife, he let all know just how much he cared for them. He loved his wife dearly. They never failed to make each other and everyone around them laugh. Barbara and Alan bantered, laughed and joked all the way up to the very end. Many will recall his love of entertaining and hearing him sing, "Honky Tonk Angel" at their home or even at Ernest Supper Club. Alan was a legend of his time.

His sister, Francis Jean Hurwitz, his children, Stanley Louis Sugar, Miles Alan Sugar, Blake Claude Palmer and grandchildren, Casey Christian and Ashley Ann Carby, precedes him in death.

He belonged to B'nai Zion Temple of Shreveport.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Alan's caregivers, Cherry Chatman, Earnest Stringer and especially Shirley Carter and Theresa Miles for being at his side day and night. The warm, compassionate care given to Alan will always be remembered with love. The family would like to give a special thanks to Osborn Funeral Home and Jesse Wheeler for their heartfelt hospitality and for the outstanding respect in honoring Alan and the family.

May god be with you and your family. Barbara, I know with mother's day coming up you may be feeling sadness creeping into your mind in unexpected ways. The first year will be full of firsts without dear Alan and girls it will be the first without your daddy. The first year is always the hardest Please know that so many people are here for you. We all know how special of a man Alan was. He loved you so much and he loved you girls so much. No man ever loved a wife as much. Heaven truly has an angel among them now. God bless you Barbara this mother's day.

Only minutes ago I learned of Alan's departure. I was certainly shocked by the news. On several occasions I had the pleasure of working in Alan and Barbara Sugar's home. They were such a delightful couple. They both kept us in stitches as they amused us with their anidotes. There was never a dull day with them around. They both were hilarious. Alan was a sweet, kind, generous, and very gentle person who touched the hearts of all he came in contact with. He has certainly made a mark in our lives that will never be erased. I will surely miss him. To Barbara, Melissa, Susie, Ashley and the the entire family may the Lord God strengthen you, keep you, and bless you real good. My prayers are with you all. Love you.

Barbara and Chuck, I am so very sorry for your loss. I remember Alan as such a nice guy. That seems to be a family tradition. I know your heart aches, but he's with Chip, Stan, (and my folks) now. - "We'll all be together by and by", and I really believe that. - Stay with God, and may His Holy Angels surround, protect and comfort you and your family....
