Donna Demopulos Obituary

Donna Sanderson Demopulos

DALLAS, TX - Donna Sanderson Demopulos passed away Friday evening, December 25, 2009 at her home in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by her husband and daughters. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the memories of her love and devotion will help sustain them in the days ahead.

Born August 26, 1962 in Jacksonville, Florida to Don and Arvilla Sanderson, she graduated from Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Louisiana and from Baylor University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts. She went on to design and manufacture jewelry and her work was featured at the Dallas Market Center and others, and in multiple publications and catalogs. After the birth of her second daughter, she became a full time mom, but continued to share her many artistic talents with family and friends, leaving them with loving mementos to be cherished in her memory.

Affectionately known as "D" to her husband and friends, she will also be remembered for her beautiful smile, her devotion and generosity to those whose lives she touched over the years and her infectious courage displayed during her year long fight with melanoma. She loved to read and garden. She also loved to cook and entertain her friends, making it a treat to be included on her guest list. Donna especially loved the beach, where she spent the last several summers with her family, collecting seashells and driftwood to be turned into prized works of art for those who received them. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and

instilled many qualities in her girls that will serve them well.

She participated in the National Charity League with her daughter, Perri, Women of the Vine and Circle 3 at Highland Park United Methodist Church.

Donna is survived by her husband, John, a physician at Medical City Dallas. She is also survived by her daughters, Jordan and Perri, her parents Don

and Arvilla Sanderson, Stevan and Geoffrey Sanderson and their wives Sharla and Alison and four nephews: Preston, Tanner, Geoffrey and Alexander, several aunts, uncles, cousins, her in-laws, and many special friends. . She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, "Nanny," whom she absolutely adored. A special thanks also to Lucy Tafalla, the loving nurse who took care of Donna during her last few months.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, at Sparkman/Hillcrest on Northwest Highway from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, in the Sanctuary of Highland Park United Methodist Church at Mockingbird and Hillcrest with Reverend Paul Rasmussen officiating; followed by burial at Sparkman/Hillcrest cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Whitmeyer, Spencer Sockwell, Steven Smathers, Dennis Noebel, Mark Bunting, Neal Ashley, Ross Mason and John Piereault. Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Plomarity, Charlie Gile, Arie Van Salm, Milton Craven and Harry Craven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to mystronghold.org or caringbridge.org. Sparkman/HillCrest

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I only met Donna once through a mutual friend (Barbara Beverlin), but was fortunate enough to receive several of her early jewelry works as a gift from Barbara. Donna's joy showed in her fun and funky jewelry and I never fail to get compliments when I wear a pair of "her" earrings. I am so sorry for your loss - your whole family is my prayers.

Dr. Demopulos,
I was so sad to hear of your terrible loss. I read your Caring Bridge journal from begining to end.
Though I never met Donna, and I barely know you, I watched you care for both my parents through decline and death, and my husband when he had a frightening diagnoses.
I appreciated how gentle and compassionate you were with them; how systematic and intelligent your practice of medicine was, how you did everything you could, and how you let my parents go when the time was right.
I can not imagine going through that process with your own wife.
Thank you for sharing it.
My heart goes out to you and your family.
I will always feel grateful for the care that you gave to my family.

Dear Perri, Jordy, and Mr. Demuoplus,
im SO sorry about your mother/wife. I know it has been an honor being part of her family and we will all miss her dearly. I was very glad to be able to visit her. The thing about Mrs. demuoplus was no matter what position she was in she always had a giving heart and a big smile. We love her and miss her and will NEVER, forget her.

December 29, 2009

Dear Dr. Demopulos,

Gerald and I are truly sorry we never met your family.

God will comfort you and your daughters in the coming years.

My faith has been my greatest comforter
when I have had to face some of life's hardest challenges. (God is always on call.)

When reading Naki's letter I was deeply moved by the love and zest that Mrs. Demopulos approached life with during her short stay on earth.

Even though Mrs. Demopulos will not physical be here with her loving family she will always be in your hearts.

In those quiet times to come and you whisper to her, how your day was and how much you miss her, you will feel her angelic presence and be filled with incredible love, peace and warmth. (Her greatest trademark.)

From the first time we met Dr. Demplulos we knew we would have the best medical care possible. His gentle bedside matter and his deep commitment to his patients shows in everything he does.

Mrs. Demopulos went in peace knowing the girls were left in the best possible hands.

MAY GOD'S PEACE GO WITH ALL OF YOU.

Dear Perri and family,
I was so sad to read about your mother. The year you were in my class, I'll never forget her creativity when it came to teacher gifting - especially Christmas of that year. I wanted to keep you in my class forever! My thoughts are with you and my prayer is that you will be comforted by the beautiful memories of your mother.

Dear Naki-

You have our deepest sympthies at the loss of Donna. She was truly a very kind and generous person who will be dearly missed.

I especially remember when Olga and I stayed at your house years and years ago when you first bought it! Both you and Donna were so hospitable. I will never forget Donna's warm smile and cheerfulness!!

I still have earrings, pins, and barrettes that Donna made. I think I have earrings and pins for every holiday. I will always remember Donna when I wear them throughout the years and when I pass them on to my daughter to wear!!

Although Gilbert and I will not be at the funeral on Wednesday, we will be there in spirit. I feel truly honored to have known Donna. The world is definitely a better place because of her. May her memory be eternal!!

Love,
Your Cousin, Constance
