Emma McWilliams Obituary

Emma Lee Blasingame McWilliams

SPRINGHILL, LA - Services for Emma Lee Blasingame McWilliams will be on November 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bailey Mortuary Chapel in Springhill, LA, with Rev. Tim Everett officiating. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.

Mrs. McWilliams was born on August 9, 1914 in Magnolia, Arkansas to William James Blasingame and Bernie M. Smith Blasingame. She lived in Springhill for over 75 years. Mrs. McWilliams passed away on November 7, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Kelly McWilliams, her son James Donald McWilliams, and three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by her three daughters, Anita Kay Alexander of Shreveport, Jan Huffman and husband Steve of Birmingham, AL, and Jo Ann Wright of Allen, TX; six grandchildren, Laura A. Sawyer and husband Jay of Shreveport, Leah A. Anders and husband Kerry of Monroe, LA, Trey Huffman and wife, Kristen, Diane H. Kopkas and husband, Jeremy, all of Atlanta, GA, Will Wright and wife Carrie of McKinney, TX, and Clint Wright and wife Melissa of Tyler, TX; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McWilliams was a faithful, longtime member of Central Baptist Church, and was active in the community. She worked with the school Band Parents organization and Girl Scouts, and was a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. While her husband served in the military during World War II, Mrs. McWilliams provided room and board for several school teachers. They became like family, and some continued to live there for many years.

In 1967, Mrs. McWilliams became the first woman member of the Webster Parish Police Jury, being appointed by Governor John J. McKeithen to fill the unexpired term of her late husband. Following the death of her husband, she worked at H & B Drugs until retirement.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and was devoted to her family and her home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Huffman, Jay Sawyer, Kerry Anders, Trey Huffman, Jeremy Kopkas, Will Wright, Clint Wright, Alex Anders and Michael Anders.

Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 504 W. Church Street, Springhill, LA 71075.

Kay, Jan, JoAnn, Ann, & Jane,

I am so sad to hear of Miss Emma Lee's passing. All of you are the center of so many happy childhood memories--from shooting fireworks off our front porch, to playing in the playhouse, to watching Miss Emma Lee frost JoAnn's hair to the cement snake under Grandma McWilliams' house, to sitting in the den and visiting. It was always exciting when Ann and Jane came to visit. There are so many memories that I'd like to share with you, but there just isn't room here. I loved Miss Emma Lee like she was a second mother and I remember our emergency number we had to memorize was 9-3112. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Much love, Linda

Jan,
I am sad to receive word from our classmate, Huey, of the death of your mother. Please accept my wife and I's condolences. Your mother must have been a special person because you are a special person, whom I consider to be a friend. You represented her well as it was my pleasure to know you and enjoy our time together at SHS. May you walk with God and remember the good times with your mother as you go through this time of change and adjustment.

Bill Crouch
