Mrs. Sharp, I didn't know you. But if you were anything like your nephew, Ted Williamson, you must have been a great lady. Ted married my daughter, Connie, and we think he is heaven sent.

My sweet friend, Frances, is gone from this life but she will never be forgotten. For the past four years she and I spent almost every Sunday together driving to lunch in Jefferson, Marshall and elsewhere and spending the afternoon at her house talking about everything imaginable. Even at the age of 95 she remained animated, interesting, interested and informed.

She shared her life experience with me, taking me back to her childhood in Vivian where she and my aunt, Janet Shockley, grew up together and remained best friends until Janet's death in 2003. She took me back with her to the time when she and her beloved husband, "My Percy" as she called him, were young and starting their lives together. Sharing with me her good times and her struggles, she made me feel as though I had always been a part of her life. While others might have given in to the extraordinary pressures of a long life during which she lost her husband and only son, she remained strong and independent. She was one of the most unselfish, caring people I have ever known.

Those of us who loved her are better people for having known her and we are confident that we'll meet again to begin a new life in the presence of God in a place beyond description where Frances often said, "They might be cutting the watermelon right now."

I love you Frances and I thank you for loving me back.
