Isabel Smith Obituary
Isabel Dominick Smith
SHREVEPORT, LA - Isabel Dominick Smith, age 98, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2009. Her lifelong home was Shreveport, Louisiana, but at the time of her death, she resided in Weatherford, Texas, with her daughter. Graveside services were held on December 23, 2009 at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, La. Officiating the service was Rev. Randy Riley of Trinity Heights Baptist Church in Shreveport where she was a member for many years.
Isabel was born on April 11, 1911 in Mira, Louisiana, and was the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Carroll Dominick, a pioneer family of Caddo Parish. The Dominicks were cotton planters and owned and operated the family's general mercantile and grocery store and cotton gin in Mira. Isabel loved reminiscing about growing up in Mira. As a child she was baptized in the Mira Pond. She remembered the U.S. post office small "pigeon hole" boxes in the family store where she worked and helped as a teen. She graduated from Dodd College in Shreveport in 1930 where she studied home economics and also attended Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches (now Northwestern State University) where she received a degree in elementary education.
Isabel enjoyed reading, playing bridge, spending time with her family, and was a window backyard bird watcher, especially of woodpeckers. She will be missed by four generations of family members and all who knew her, but she leaves for us a legacy of love, kindness, compassion, peace and joy.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Luther G. Smith, her four brothers A.C., Johnny, Jack and Paul Dominick, a nephew Paul Dominick, Jr., and a beloved uncle, John. H. Dominick. Survivors are her daughter Sylvia Ann Smith Eidson and her husband Frank D. Eidson of Weatherford, Tx;, granddaughters Sheri Schroeder, Weatherford, Tx. and Suzanne Pringle and husband Ross Pringle, Austin, Tx. and grandson, Darry Eidson, Weatherford, Tx., great grandchildren Monica Tidwell, Jasmine Lovelady, Sarah Isabel Pringle, Brantley Pringle III, Breanna Olguin, and great-great grandchildren Addison Tidwell, Reed Tidwell, Sadie Pickard and Seth Pickard. Additional survivors include nieces Nancy Fluck of Monroe, La., and Judy Riordan of Rockwall, Tx., nephews A.C. Dominick, Jr., John Dominick, Chris Dominick, Jack Dominick, Jr. , sister-in-law Susan Dominick, niece Bonnie Dominick, and many great nieces and nephews.
