John was the kindest man I have ever met. He always greeted you with a smile, a sincere hug and an open ear. He walked the walk and talked the talk to everyone he met. He will always be remembered by his haram!

I remember back in the day, we would work the Friday night bingo at the KC hall. Afterwards we would all go to Abe's to eat. If you told them that it was someone's birthday, they would give us a small cake. Of course, it was always somebody's birthday - usually John's birthday. We always had a great time playing softball together. I never could figure out why he always called Podnuh's BBQ - partners bbq. Just never could get rid of that yankee accent. I still tell that story when we go eat there. You 3 kids look great. Remember that sunset in one place is sunrise in another.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to John William Wessler, Sr. our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for John. And to John it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Army. John, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to John's family and loved ones.
