Martha Meier

SHREVEPORT, LA - Martha Meier, 88, a resident of Shreveport, LA, died peacefully in her sleep October 9, 2009 after a brief illness. The funeral service will be Monday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m., in the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans with Msgr. Carson LaCaze officiating and Fr. Charles Glorioso assisting. Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Rose-Neath Chapel on 1815 Marshall St. followed by the Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Hot Springs, AR.

Born in Boston, MA in 1921, she graduated from Girl's Latin School, attended Simmons College and graduated from Boston University. She worked for the John Hancock Insurance Company.

She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, Vice-President and bookkeeper of the family business. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Theresa Donaghue, and brother David Donaghue. Survivors include William Meier, husband of 63 years; sisters Doris Ferris and spouse Ted, Claire Aplan and spouse Frank, Polly Grandpre and spouse Bob, sister-in-law Margie Donaghue; children Richard Meier, Stephen Meier and spouse Mary Jane, Nancy Meier and partner Roy Hardman, Philip Meier, Larry Meier and Patricia Meier; Grandchildren Seth Meier and spouse Darlene, Tess Johnson and spouse Tim and Eric Meier; great grandchildren Stella Jane, Lucas and Jackson Meier and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are grandsons Seth Meier and Eric Meier; nephews Mark Meier, Paul Meier and Frank Donaghue.

She was a member of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans Catholic church since 1946 where she was a member of Circle 5 Queens Workers. She loved her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a wide circle of friends. She was a longtime member of two bridge clubs enjoyed socializing and watching Boston Red Sox baseball.

Special thanks to Dr. Glen Mills at LSUHSC, Claude Pasquier at Spring Lake Guest Care Center, the Drs. Khanna and Kessel and the staff at Promise Hospital, Susan Davis Flanagan, Tookie Barr, Lynn Grauke, Helen Marak and her caregivers Cynthia Combs, Alma Walker and Sharon Houston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, the Cathedral of St John Berchmans Pipe Organ Fund or the charity of your choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
