Personally, I did not think I know Merdis. But his face was so familiar to me when I saw it in the the paper. I have not been able to get this face out of my mind and now I remember -- A Time to Kill. I thought he played his part so realistically. May God be with you and your family now and in the future. Our loved ones may leave but the memory of them will always be with you. God loves you.

To the family of Merdis Thomas, I was over whelmed when I read the paper on Friday morning. Merdis and I were classmates at Second Ward High School, Gloster, LA. We graduated the class 63'. I enjoyed watching Merdis playing in A time to kill. He was always acting even when we were in high school. My prayers are with the family. Be encourage because God will take care of you.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Merdis Thomas, our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Merdis. And to Merdis it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Merdis, we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,355 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Merdis’s family and loved ones.
