NOLA TERRY "MITZIE" GRAY POINDEXTER

MRS. THOMAS CLEARY POINDEXTER, SR.

SHREVEPORT, LA - A mass in memory and celebration of the life of Mitzie Poindexter will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 26th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Charles Glorioso. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 25th, at Osborn Funeral Home. A Rosary will precede the visitation at 4:15 in the chapel.

Mitzie was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico to Ruby and John Gray on August 22, 1930, where John was an Independent Oil Operator (Wildcatter). She passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. She grew up in Carrizo Springs, TX, where she graduated from Carrizo Springs High School. Mitzie moved to Shreveport and attended Centenary College after high school. She was employed at Superior Iron Work & Supply Co. where she met and married the love of her life, Tommy Poindexter, in 1955. They had six children - Mary, Thomas, Robert, Susan, Michael, and Margaret.

Mitzie loved her family and really enjoyed having large family gatherings and meals, especially during the holidays. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. She had a very generous and giving spirit. Besides her family, Mitzie had four passions in her life - bridge, reading, investing, and politics. As a member of the Shreveport Bridge Association, she was an avid tournament bridge player attaining Bronze Life Master status. She also taught bridge at Centenary College. She was a member and past President of the Marquette Reading Circle. She and Tommy were voracious readers. She enjoyed actively investing in stocks and bonds and her membership in the B&B Syndicate. Mitzie was also a member of the National Republican Women's Committee. She would have multiple VCR's recording multiple news and political shows at the same time. She would have loved DVR's. She excelled at crossword puzzles and playing along with Jeopardy. Her unofficial title should have been "Global Current Events Specialist." She was a loving brilliantly smart woman.

Mitzie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 32 years, her son, Michael Gray Poindexter, and her brother Joseph Ledbetter. She is survived by her children, Mary Poindexter Wren and husband Edward J. "Eddie" Wren, III, M.D. of Baton Rouge, LA, son Thomas Cleary Poindexter, Jr. and wife Elizabeth "Cissy" Melancon Poindexter of New Orleans, LA, son Robert John Poindexter and wife Kim Cotter Poindexter of Shreveport, LA, and daughters Susan Anne Poindexter and Margaret Patricia Poindexter, both of Gulf Shores, AL. Her grandchildren are Elizabeth Gray "Betsy" Poindexter of Charleston, SC, Robert John Poindexter, Jr. of Queenstown, New Zealand, Michael Edward Wren and Thomas Jennings Wren, both of New Orleans, and Anne Cleary Poindexter of New Orleans. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Gray Kunze, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family is very thankful for the years of loving service and friendship of the Stokes family, the excellent care given by Dr. Rick Michael and Debra Johnson of Shreveport Internal Medicine, the dedicated and gentle care given by the staff of the Green Cottage at the Glen, and especially the loving care Chelitha "Shun" Richardson gave mom the last few years of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Loyola College Prep, or the charity of your choice.

Mom, you are now in Heaven with Dad and Michael, and you can smoke all you want.
